Tell EVERYONE you know about the STOP Program, a spay/neuter assistance program that helps pet owners get their pets altered with little to no money spent. Help stem the overpopulation of pets in our community and SAVE LIVES--refer people to the STOP Program! Brochures available at the shelter.
Who We Are
We are a city-funded animal shelter that opened January 3, 2006. We are NOT a no-kill facility and unfortunately, do have to euthanize animals, sometimes just for space limitations.
Mission Statement----
To promote awareness, empathy and concern for all life through education and advocacy insofar as sanctuary resources permit.
To foster a public sentiment of humanity and gentleness toward animals and to protect them from cruelty, neglect, carlessness and ignornance.
To prevent pet overpopulation through altering of companion animals.
To strengthen the human/animal coexistence through humane sheltering, responsible pet placement, progressive law enforcement and by offering those a second chance at life.
To create a better environment for all those within the community and to lead by example.
Adopting a friend
Once an adoption application is submitted your name is placed in line to adopt that pet. It takes a couple days for staff to get your application processed/approved, they will then contact you to let you know when the spay/neuter surgery is scheduled for and when your new friend can go home! We do NOT do same-day adoptions.

We are located at 1501 S Severance, just South of the Hutchinson Correctional Facility. We are in between Avenue G and Blanchard, on the West side of Severance.
