TEACHER'S PET PROGRAM
This program began in January 2009 and is
sponsored by All Paws Pet Center in Wichita, KS. Dogs in this program
will be housed in a licensed foster home for a period of at least 8
weeks. During the 8 weeks, their foster parent will crate train and
house train their dog; and with the help of SitStay Dog Training at All
Paws Pet Center, the dog will learn basic obedience commands and how to
walk on a leash. These lucky dogs will still be available for adoption,
but interested parties will have two options:
1) They may adopt the dog and take him/her to the remainder of the
obedience classes at All Paws Pet Center themselves or
2) They can wait for the dogs to "graduate" the program and can go to
their new home at the end of the 8 weeks.
Since these dogs will have a head start on training, their adoption fee
will be $125; they will get all the same medical services all our
shelter dogs receive also. Dogs in this program will be marked with **
before and after their names on our website. Please call with further
questions about these wonderful dogs!
Tell EVERYONE you know about the STOP Program, a spay/neuter assistance
program that helps pet owners get their pets altered with little to no
money spent. Help stem the overpopulation of pets in our community and

We are a city-funded animal shelter thatís been in operation since January 3, 2006. Our Animal Services department consists of three animal control officers, four shelter technicians and one animal services director. We strive to provide quality service, excellent customer service and an invaluable assistance to the animals and citizens in our community.
Our facility comfortably houses approximately 48 dogs and 37 cats. We do not have a ďsetĒ time frame on the amount of time an animal will remain safe in our shelter; that is determined on the animalís is health, adoptability and if we have available kennel space. Unfortunately, some times animals do have to be humanely euthanized due solely to lack of kennel space; or that may be an animalís fate due to medical or behavioral issues. We do behavior assessments on dogs over six months of age to assure ourselves and the community that we are adopting out great dogs to their forever homes. We also work with many different rescue organizations to transfer out as many animals as we can so that they may safely find their way to a new home.
We offer many programs at our shelter that weíre proud of and we are ALWAYS looking for more people to join us and our cause. We have a volunteer and foster program available, Teacherís Pet Program (where you can adopt an already-trained pet), a humane education program and a dog and cat obedience program to offer!

November 19, 2010
Today, the Hutchinson Animal Shelter began using the service known as "Twitter." Twitter is a web-based communication tool that allows citizens to follow department announcements on the web.
To participate, you need to signup for an account on the website (www.twitter.com). Once you have your username and password you can search for the Hutchinson Animal Shelter (username HutchShelter) and click follow or just type the url into your address bar (http://twitter.com/hutchshelter) The site also allows you to configure your cell phone to receive text updates.
Once an adoption application is submitted your name is placed in line
to adopt that pet. It takes a couple days for staff to get your
application processed/approved, they will then contact you to let you
know when the spay/neuter surgery is scheduled for and when your new
friend can go home! We do NOT do same-day adoptions.
