TEACHER'S PET PROGRAM
This program began in January 2009 and is sponsored by All Paws Pet Center in Wichita, KS. Dogs in this program will be housed in a licensed foster home for a period of at least 8 weeks. During the 8 weeks, their foster parent will crate train and house train their dog; and with the help of SitStay Dog Training at All Paws Pet Center, the dog will learn basic obedience commands and how to walk on a leash. These lucky dogs will still be available for adoption, but interested parties will have two options: 1) they may adopt the dog and take him/her to the remainder of the obedience classes at All Paws Pet Center themselves or 2) they can wait for the dogs to "graduate" the program and can go to their new home at the end of the 8 weeks. Since these dogs will have a head start on training, their adoption fee will be $125; they will get all the same medical services all our shelter dogs receive also. Dogs in this program will be marked with ** before and after their names on our website. Please call with further questions about these wonderful dogs!
Tell EVERYONE you know about the STOP Program, a spay/neuter assistance program that helps pet owners get their pets altered with little to no money spent. Help stem the overpopulation of pets in our community and SAVE LIVES--refer people to the STOP Program! Brochures available at the shelter.
Who We Are
We are a city-funded animal shelter that opened January 3, 2006. Because we are a municipal facility we do, unfortunately, have to euthanize animals; sometimes just for space limitations. We do not have a choice, we would keep them forever if we could. If the fact that we euthanize bothers you, please tell everyone you know to spay or neuter their animals to help us control the pet population.
Mission Statement----
To promote awareness, empathy and concern for all life through education and advocacy insofar as sanctuary resources permit.
To foster a public sentiment of humanity and gentleness toward animals and to protect them from cruelty, neglect, carlessness and ignornance.
To prevent pet overpopulation through altering of companion animals.
To strengthen the human/animal coexistence through humane sheltering, responsible pet placement, progressive law enforcement and by offering those a second chance at life.
To create a better environment for all those within the community and to lead by example.
Adopting a friend
Once an adoption application is submitted your name is placed in line to adopt that pet. It takes a couple days for staff to get your application processed/approved, they will then contact you to let you know when the spay/neuter surgery is scheduled for and when your new friend can go home! We do NOT do same-day adoptions.
ADOPTION FEES:
$100 Dogs & Cats
Includes the following:
Spay/Neuter surgery
General Dewormer
Distemper vaccine
Rabies vaccine (if 4 months old or older)
AVID microchip with national registration
Dogs receive a heartworm test if they're at least 6 months old
Cats are tested for leukemia and FIV
**If pet is already altered, adoption fee is only $50**
