Who We Are
The Heart of America Humane Society is an all-volunteer, 501(c)3 non-profit organization helping to place shelter and foster animals into permanent homes in and around the greater Kansas City metro area.
Our goal is to save and improve the lives of Kansas City's homeless companion animals by promoting responsible pet ownership. The Heart of America Humane Society (HAHS) partners with two local animal shelters, the Lee's Summit Animal Shelter (Lee's Summit, MO) and the B. Martin-Peck Animal Shelter (Ottawa, KS), to manage a spay/neuter program and to increase pet adoptions into responsible, permanent homes.
Background
Our organization does not have a permanent facility or paid staff, so nearly all of our adoptions or other community involvement takes place on-site at pet stores and through other event venues. Some events raise awareness and bring in donations for our animal support efforts, while others help acknowledge and show appreciation for our own volunteers (who perform all duties outside of their regular jobs). HAHS maintains a News and Events Web page to highlight these efforts.

Let us know you're interested in pitching in by contacting us, or call our voice mail number at 1-800-384-3143. You can also sign up by using the Volunteer Application from our Downloads page. All volunteers must be at least 16 years old, but high school kids can earn community service time.
