At the Anderson Animal Care & Control location - 613 Dewey St., Anderson, IN.

The Petfest Super Adoption is a cooperative effort in which the Anderson Animal Care and Control can show their animals together in a fun & festive atmosphere to adopt out a substantial number of animals during a designated period of time.

The Petfest Super Adoption will have a festival-like atmosphere, featuring live music, tasty food and drinks, and other activities. It’s a fun, positive way for the general public to come out and see all the wonderful, adoptable animals in the shelter.

Dozens of lives can be saved through this Petfest Super Adoption! WE HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!

Please contact Mary Walters at (765)621-6441 or marywalters@comcast.net if you would like to volunteer or sponsor this great event.

FOSTER HOMES NEEDED! Please contact us if you are interested in Helping!

Our Shelter

The Anderson Animal Care and Control is a city animal control agency. We receive approximately 5,000 to 7,000 animals a year. Due to this large number not all animals will find a home. Most are picked up as strays with little history on them, however some are owner surrenders. All available information is listed on Petfinder.

The shelter is always full. There are dozens of cats and dogs that are in desperate need of a permanent home everyday. Come and visit our animals - we are easy to find and our animals love the attention!

Patented Kuranda Dog Beds We use Patented Kuranda Dog Beds because they are durable, chew proof and easy to clean. If you would like to donate a bed to us, click here.

~ If you would like to help our shelter please consider donating a bed. Our dogs only have the cold hard concrete floor to lay on. They would love a nice bed to lay on while they wait for their Forever Home! Thanks! ~

******************************************************************************************************************* If you are looking for a canine or feline companion to add to your family, please consider adopting a shelter dog or cat or both. Nationwide, only 20% of all family pets are obtained from animal shelters. Make a difference for these forgotten souls in 2008! Visit your local shelter or your virtual shelter on Petfinder.com.

And remember -

Please Don't Breed or Buy While Shelter Animals Die!!

Adopting a Pet

You must sign an adoption contract to have the pet spayed or neutered within a specified amount of time. The amount of time allowed will depend on the animal's estimated age at the time of adoption.

There are several other specifications that are on the contract. Including notification of the shelter if your address changes, you must return the pet to the shelter if it doesn't work out, etc. Please make sure to read the contract thoroughly before signing the agreement.

It is $5.00 to adopt a cat or kitten & $10.00 to adopt a dog or puppy. You must also purchase a city license if you live in the city of Anderson.

It is suggested that you take your new pet to the vet as soon as possible after adoption to make sure that they are healthy.

Food for Thought

Three Things You Can Do To Make a Positive Change For Homeless Shelter Animals!

ADOPT OR RESCUE the next time you choose to add a new pet to your family. When you buy from a pet shop you are encouraging puppy mills to produce more puppies that will add to the pet overpopulation problem that already exists. SAVE A LIFE! Shelters and rescue organizations always have pure-breeds in addition to loving and wonderful mixed breeds.

SPAY AND NEUTER Every Pet That You Have. Please don't add to the existing pet overpopulation problem. Millions of homeless animals housed in US Shelters die each year due to the lack of responsible owners. SAVE LIVES! SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR PETS! Look for low cost spay and neuter services at www.indiana-paw.com

KEEP YOUR PETS for Their Entire Lifetime! Choosing to own a pet is a lifetime commitment. Honor your promise to love and provide a safe and healthy life for the pet you choose. When challenges arise such as family structure change, moves, pet behavior issues, heath or financial change, seek out the resources that can help keep you and your pet together. Animals are living beings that bond with you, offering a lifetime of unconditional love.

Ways to be kind to animals:

1) Report animal abuse. Violence against animals is terrible enough, but it could also be a sign that other violent behavior, like domestic abuse, is happening.

2) Speak out for animals. Get active in local animal welfare policies and legislation.

3) Kindness starts at home. Teach the people in your life, especially children, about the importance of treating animals humanely.

4) Adopt a pet from a shelter or breed-specific rescue. About 8 to 12 million animals enter shelters every year, and more than half of these pets will have to be euthanized because of a lack of homes. Want a purebred Labrador? Check with your local shelter first -- they take in mutts and purebreds.

5) Help solve the tragedy of euthanasia of adoptable animals by not contributing to the problem. If you have pets, make sure they are spayed or neutered.

6) Make a donation to your local animal shelter. A donation can be your time, money or needed items like pet food or laundry detergent. Call them first and see what they need.

7) Be a responsible pet guardian. Pets should be microchipped and should always wear a collar with an ID tag, so they can be reunited with you quickly if they are ever lost. And take your pet to the veterinarian every year for vaccinations and a health check.

"I expect to pass through this world but once; any good thing therefore that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any fellow creature, let me do it now; let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again." ~Etienne De Grellet (1773 - 1855)
