IS A MINPIN RIGHT FOR ME?

While we love this breed, they are most certainly not suitable for everyone.

Minpins tend to be:

-Difficult to housetrain reliably
-VERY vocal
-Suspicious of strangers
-Absolutely unreliable off-lead
-Challenging to train in general
-"Prey-driven" (i.e. not trustworthy with small animals, including cats)
-Demanding-minpins attach very strongly to their people, sometimes to just one family member, and tend to need a lot of one-on-one time)

Minpins also tend to be:

-A laugh riot
-Cuddly during their "downtime"
-Loyal to a fault
-Long-lived companions, active and healthy into old age
-Unlike some toy dogs, energetic and athletic enough for long walks, agility work, and an overall active lifestyle

Volunteers needed!

IMPS IN/IL has had an enormous increase in the number of minpins coming into rescue-please consider volunteering for our group! Volunteers can foster dogs as they await their new homes, help with fundraising, work on approving applications, assist with transportation, and so much more. If you'd like to volunteer, please fill out an application online by clicking HERE .

IMPS Information

IMPS attempts to assist Miniature Pinschers in need by providing foster care, transport, adoptive homes, veterinary care, and other services and information for the well-being of Miniature Pinschers.

All Miniature Pinschers placed through IMPS will be spayed or neutered prior to placement, and have been thoroughly evaluated by a breed representative for temperament and training needs. IMPS requires reimbursement of all necessary veterinary costs (eg. the cost of the spay/neuter, microchipping, and any veterinary care required prior to placement), and in some instances, travel costs.

A donation to the organization is requested with each adoption so that we may continue to care for chronically ill and/or severely injured foster dogs. In all cases, any expenses related to the adoption will be agreed upon prior to placement.

Breed Information

Often referred to as "The King of Toys", the Miniature Pinscher is an assertive, outgoing, active, and independent breed.

They can be incredible escape artists, and hard to housebreak and obedience train, but in the right home, with the proper training, they can be the best companion dog you have ever owned. Loving, affectionate and playful, the Miniature Pinscher makes its own rules, but will bend to yours if treated with affection and care.

Some miniature Pinschers can be good with children if the children are good with dogs!!! While this is a Toy breed, they are not toys. Children should always be supervised with dogs, and most especially with small dogs.

While a Miniature Pinscher will tolerate a certain amount of attention from a child, grabbing, pinching, sudden moves and aggressiveness will be met with defensive reactions. If you have young, active children, you may want to look at somewhat larger breeds or mixes, of a temperament generally more tolerant of children.
