Adoptable Dogs

The videos above are just a couple of representations of what It Takes a Village Canine Rescue, Inc. (ITV) is all about! We love and work to personally know each and every dog that enters into our foster homes! ITV believes that an open door policy is the best approach to finding the perfect forever homes for our dogs! This means that we will fully disclose all behaviors, both positive and negative, that our dogs display! One thing that we guarantee is to tell you the truth to the extent of our knowledge about all of our dogs! After all, our goal is to match the perfect dog to the perfect home - We don't ever want to see any of our dogs in a shelter or foster home again! Another guarantee ITV offers is the guarantee to assist new owners with any problems to the best of our ability, and to always take a dog back into our care if an adoption does not work out! Thank you for considering adopting from ITV, and we hope to hear from you soon!

I RESCUED A HUMAN TODAY

by Janine Allen

Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her.

I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn’t be afraid. As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn’t want her to know that I hadn’t been walked today. Sometimes the overworked shelter keepers get too busy and I didn’t want her to think poorly of them.

As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn’t feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone’s life.

She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well.

Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms.

I would promise to keep her safe.
I would promise to always be by her side.
I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes.

I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven’t walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.

I rescued a human today.

Mission Statement

It Takes A Village Canine Rescue, Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to doing what it takes to find loving homes for stray, abandoned, and surrendered animals, and to keep these animals safe and free from further suffering. By working with committed volunteers, foster homes, local veterinarians, animal control, trainers, and boarding facilities, we are able to rescue countless animals every year and provide them with loving temporary care as we work to find them well-matched forever homes. Although we do not discriminate based on breed, size or color, we have a particular interest in bully breeds, black dogs and other hard-to-place dogs.

About Us

It Takes a Village (ITV) is a nonprofit dog rescue! We are a 501(c) organization and we are registered with the state of Indiana as a nonprofit organization.

Our main focus is to help the dogs located within shelters in the Evansville area - Warrick Animal Control, Gibson County Animal Services, Owensboro Animal Control, and Evansville Animal Control. We desire to influence our community, and hope to one day make a dent in the homeless pet population! We try to focus on the more "undesirable" dogs that find themselves in the shelter. This includes black dogs and/or bully breeds! However, this does not mean we won't save any dog that is having problems finding a home! Please feel free to view and share the dogs located within our "Adoptable Dogs Album" on Facebook, as they are all still needing homes!

Our Needs!

We do realize that many people are unable to foster. However, please realize that you can STILL help us out! We are often looking for people to help us run things around town throughout the day! We are also always looking for people to help us get dogs to their spay/neuter appointments or to other locations as needed. People who are good at training are also desired, as we have many fosters who do not have the ability to train some of our "wilder" fosters (like those who have had zero training and are a year old)! Lastly, and most importantly, we are looking for people who can be in charge of planning and implementing fund raisers and adoption events! It is hard to find somebody willing to help out with these very important aspects of a rescue, so if you think you may be able and willing to help out, please do!

Now that we've mentioned fostering, we figure we can explain it a little bit! As a rescue, we are always in need of new foster homes! The more quality foster homes we have, the more lives we can save! Fostering is the perfect option for those who are not able to make a lifetime commitment to a new family pet, or for those who want to make the difference in the life of a dog! As a foster, you merely need to provide a dog with food, water, shelter, and LOVE! If there are any vet costs, we will cover these costs; however, all vet appointments need to be scheduled by us. Fostering is a large commitment, but it is also EXTREMELY rewarding! When somebody is trying to decide if fostering or adopting is the way to go, I always remind them of their potential roles by saying:

"When you adopt a new dog, you save a life, and we completely thank you for that. However, when you foster, you have the potential of saving hundreds!"
