We have been in our new facility since December of 2004. This fall volunteers from the community gave the shelter some much needed landscaping, adding perennial plants, shade trees and six evergreens to provide a windbreak on the shelter's western side. A number of local organizations, including the Brownies and Girl Scouts, have toured the building and everyone is always impressed by its blend of style and functionality. An informative story of how we got the new shelter appears in the January 2005 issue of Dog Fancy magazine.
June is Adopt a Shelter Cat Month and October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month. The shelter has half off adoptions for cats in June and dogs in October.
The Friends of the Shelter will be at our annual Street Fair in September with volunteers at our booth in the Industrial Tent. The Fair runs from September 22nd through the 26th. Our shelter manager will bring to the booth animals who are awaitng adoption and we look forward to seeing many potential adopters. This year at our booth, we will have patriotic bandanas, dvd's for pet care, grooming gloves, food bag clips and 4" tennis balls for your pets.
Who We Are
The Bluffton Animal Shelter is a joint venture of the City of Bluffton and Wells County. It has three full-time employees and receives volunteer help and financial assistance from a local group known as Friends of the Shelter. Having completed construction of the new shelter, the Friends continue their efforts to increase adoptions at the new building and also provide neuter-spay assistance to low and fixed income petowners through a fund administered by the Wells County Foundation.

The Bluffton Animal Shelter is located at 1613 West Cherry Street, just west of the county highway garage and south of the city's new water tower. The business hours are M-Th 9am to 5:30pm and Fri. 10am to 5:30 pm. A photo of our new facility appears below.
