Pet of the Month
Our pet of the month introduces herself. Holly is a black and tan coonhound mix female. She is 10 months old and will be spayed for adoption. Holly is a very friendly, out-going, active girl. She would love some children to play with and is also good with other dogs. Holly would love to be part of your family. Holly has been here since Feb.
Who We Are
We are a city shelter, funded by the city of Vincennes, IN. We get animals that are strays, dumped or are surrendered by the owners in the city and the county. We are not a no kill shelter at this time. There are so many animals just waiting for homes. The shelter is open Monday-Friday 10-5, Sat 10-3, Sunday1-4
Adopting a friend
We require an adoption fee and adoption application/contract. It includes the spay or neuter, first dhlpp shot and deworming. . Animals may be adopted outside the state. There is transportation available to northern Indiana, northern Illinois, Wisconsin and the eastern states.
Working With Rescue Groups
We are a rescue friendly shelter. Rescues will be required to provide references prior to helping assist any animals.
Why do we work with Rescue Groups?
Some folks may not know that there are more animals than there are good homes. Also there are some dogs that are more common in shelters and often sit waiting for a home longer than others. Animals may also have certain behaviorial or medical problems that most times rescue groups are more suitable than the shelter to work with. When the shelter gets overcrowded our only choice is to euthanize. While we still have to unfortunately do that, working with rescues allows us to get many animals out alive and into wonderful homes through the rescue groups, and minimizes euthanasia. All the groups we work with are 501c3 organizations and foster animals in their homes until they find an approved adoptor for that specific animal. If you have any questions regarding our shelter and rescues, please feel free to ask.
Urgent Dogs!
The dogs on our site have an arrival date. We are a "kill" shelter that euthanizes when we run out of space for the animals. We have had 45 dogs/pups come in a 5-day period. This does not leave room for others. Time is of the essence. Please email or call the shelter immediately if you are interested in a particular animal.

We are located in southern Indiana. We are half way between Terre Haute and Evansville. We are about 2 hours from Indianapolis.
