...is JERSEY, the cat, and Jake, a Border Collie! What a great cat Jersey is! Find out why in his bio -- or better yet, call to come visit him! He's a little concerned: Koala, Cupid and Valentino are coming back from the vet soon, after their surergy to become sort-of grown-ups ready for adoption! He wants to beat them out the door with a new home and new parents to love him! Need a friend? How about a cat?? You don't have to walk a CAT in the rain or cold! CATS don't knock you down when they greet you! CATS don't take up the entire sofa and chew up the remote or change the channel! CATS don't eat more than you do! CATS don't jump into the pool uninvited or hide your favorite frizbee or ball! CATS don't require a bath (usually)! CATS don't bark! (Sorry, dogs!) CATS are great listeners! Need a new best friend? Get a CAT! They'll lower your blood pressure and dissolve your stress! Look at Maisie Rose's story -- she fell in love with Mike and Margaret and was adopted. But this is different: We'd bet that you never read anything quite like her story! Cats are beyond amazing!! Don't forget your pets when making an emergency plan for your family! Refer to Petfinder for more information. Many cities and first-responder networks don't know about or don't yet get the seriousness of the federal PETS Act of 2006: PET EVACUATION AND TRANSPORTATION SERVICES federal law, passed after Katrina hit. Research it on the net and be sure that your community is prepared to save its pets! Remember that it's always expensive to take care of these little guys, with spay/neuter services, shots required, medical help at times, food, shelter costs, etc. If you can, please DONATE YOUR SPONSORSHIP TO HELP ONE OF THESE PRECIOUS LITTLE CREATURES! Help us fulfill all of our responsibilities to all of these beautiful animals by sponsoring one of the cats on our site through Petfinders's Sponsorship Program. Help us continue this important work!
News
We want to thank Y.E.S. (Youth Embracing Service) for bringing us some superb volunteer help! Our kitties are becoming socialized more thoroughly and are brushed, played with and treated to special care by some great young volunteers! If you're in the Terre Haute, IN area and need some volunteer help, look for award-winning Y.E.S. on the web. You won't be sorry!! Please note that our computer has been a little cranky lately and we've been experiencing some slowing of network response. -- We'd guess that it's because so many people are job-hunting right now. If you see a cat you like but would like more pictures, please email us and we'll try to accommodate your request through an email response. As an expanding no-kill non-profit feline shelter, we work to find our socialized feline friends terrific indoor forever-homes when they are at least four months of age and have been spayed or neutered and have gotten their shots. We give a permanent home to our outdoor colony made up mostly of cats never quite socialized enough for adoption, but cats that are spayed or neutered, happy, healthy, and deserving of a great life! In respecting the wildlife that visit us, we feed a family of frequently visiting raccoons, the deer who come almost every evening and often nap in the grass, as well as providing for our bird and squirrel friends. Our small plot of land is a no-hunting haven of safety for all of our non-predatory animal neighbors. We received federal/state sanctioning in December of 2005, but have been providing for our furry friends for many years. As a non-profit organization, we operate only through tax-deductible donations and the process of non-governmental foundation grant application. We recieve no government funding whatsoever.
Adopting a friend
If you see a face that you'd like to know better, call us for an appointment to come visit! Our adoption fees are very reasonable. If you already have a cat and need a little guidance, call us! Many people ask us about declawed cats. We don't currently have any rescued declawed cats available for adoption. Declawing is something that we absolutely DO NOT reccomend or encourage and, in fact, we will turn down an adoptive person or family if they show a clear indication that they may well declaw a cat. Imagine having the last knuckle removed from each of your fingers to remove your fingernails. That is what declawing is, for cats. It is painful, can lead to terrible infection, leaves a cat defenseless in case of accidental escape or removal from the home, and is irreversible -- if you lose your home or your health and for some reason no one is able to care for your cat, it cannot climb from danger or defend itself. Simply saying, "It won't happen to my cat," is not good enough. It has happened to financially secure families and the most devoted pet-lovers. There are products and training procedures that can insure the bare minimum of clawing of you or your furnishings. If you don't have the patience for this concern, don't adopt a cat! The innocence of a cat or dog not knowing that a behavior is unacceptable, is up to the owner or caretaker to correct, not up to the animal to assume! Please respect the needs of our littlest brothers and sisters and don't declaw them! Did Fluffy run away? Did Bounder get out of the yard? Click on Pets 911 banner below.
