Southern Indiana Animal Rescue

Meet Elsie!

Elsie was posted on Facebook as having a hurt front leg and the owner could not care for her. The post said she had been attacked by a pig. So Southern Indiana Animal Rescue was contacted and stepped up to take care of this baby girl. Once Elsie was picked up on our ride home we realized her leg was more than just hurt, it was just hanging there and she had no feeling in it. Elsie only had one external injury, a little bump on her hip. The pig story didn't add up but it was all we had been told.

The following day was our trip to the vet. We were shocked to find out what her real injuries were. The vet could feel bone fragments from just touching her joint. Then the x-rays came in and confirmed what the vet felt. The x-ray showed her front leg would have to be amputated because the joint was shattered, her hip was broken and she had two BB's in her little body. The bump on her hip was the location that at least one BB entered her body, the hole was still there and it is the size of the BB.

This trauma she experienced was not something that had just happened because any other external injuries had healed. We do not know how long this abuse went on for this little girl but we know in her first 12 weeks of life she went through what no living thing should ever have to go through. We don't know if a pig had anything to do with her injuries but we do know that someone did!

Even after a human treated her the way she was treated, she still loves people. Elsie is a happy, sweet and cuddly baby girl who deserves only the best!

Your donation will help us reach more dogs like Elsie who need our help!

Information

We are a non-profit 501c3. Southern Indiana Animal Rescue, (S.I.R), is an all volunteer group of caring individuals dedicated to saving companion animals whose lives are in jeopardy. We do not have a shelter! All our pets live in volunteer's homes until their forever home is found. Animals are rescued from a variety of circumstances including stray, abandonment, owner surrenders, and kill shelters. Volunteers lovingly bring these animals into their home for temporary foster care where they receive full vetting including spay/neutering, microchipping, worming, flea, tick, and heartworm prevention; as well as rehabilitation, and socialization until they are adopted into their forever home. We also educate the public about pet overpopulation, and responsible and humane pet care.
Southern Indiana Animal Rescue strives to go "above and beyond" when caring for, socializing, and training our rescued pets. We are proud to say we care enough about our pets, that we welcome them into our homes as our own. PLEASE consider opening your home to a temporarily homeless pet! We can save so many more lives if we had more foster homes!!!!!
If you would like to foster, please download an application HERE!, fill it out, and email it to staceandsir@yahoo.com or SouthernIndianaAnimalRescue@gmail.com.
Just like people, pets have unique preferences and personalities. We understand it is important to identify those qualities in order to match a rescued pet with the perfect home. We go the "extra mile", because we strongly feel these animals have suffered enough. Both you and they deserve their next home to be a "forever home!"

Adoption Process

Once you have found a pet you are interested in, we will then ask you to download a copy of our adoption application. Once you fill out the application, email us back and we'll get back with you within 24 hours or less. We are very prompt about returning emails and setting up a time to meet your potential pet!

We want you to have a wonderful relationship with your pet.
Here are a few things to consider during the adoption:

  • Where will the dog be spending most of his/her time? Inside or out?
  • Are you willing to allow an in home visit before and/or after the adoption?
  • If you have children or other pets, are you aware of the temperament and disposition of the pet you're interested in?
  • Obedience classes can help ensure you have a good relationship with your new companion pet. Have you looked into training classes to enroll into?

    Fostering

    WE NEED FOSTER HOMES!
We can save many more animals from death if we can get more people to offer their home/apartment to short term foster puppies or dogs. Fostering involves inviting rescued animals into your home and caring for these companion pets until a forever home is found. Foster animals have been adopted in as little as 3 days to as long as 6 months. The average stay at your house/apartment being 1 month, possibly less. S.I.R. will provide vetting and items such as food, crates, leashes, and collars for the foster pets. Foster parents can provide additional chew toys and other items not provided by S.I.R. that might help the transition of these pets into a household environment.
If you would like to foster, please download an application HERE!, fill it out, and email it to staceandsir@yahoo.com or SouthernIndianaAnimalRescue@gmail.com. If you have technical problems downloading the application, please email: heretoforever@yahoo.com and someone will immediately get back to you with assistance.
Fostering a needy animal is EXTREMELY rewarding. You know that without your help, that animal would more than likely would be in a kill-shelter. In addition, we have need for EMERGENCY short term fostering which lasts anywhere from 1 night to 2 weeks.

    Donations

All dollars received by Southern Indiana Animal Rescue (S.I.R.) cover the cost of actual expenses including spay, neuter, microchipping, worming, flea and tick control, and any other health conditions a pet may have upon coming into our rescue. To keep our expenses low, we have partnered with the Kentucky Humane Society’s SNIP (Spay/Neuter Incentive Program) clinic receiving Rescue Organization Rates. We also have rescue partnerships with 2 other veterinary clinics around the area to further reduce vetting costs. No one at S.I.R., receives a paycheck! You can be sure that 100% of your donation goes right back into direct pet rescue! Please take a minute to look at the below fundraisers we have. If you would like to donate other items, we are always in need of leashes, collars, dog beds, gas cards, and volunteers. Any donation, no matter how small or large is always appreciated!
