Who We Are
South Bend Animal Care and Control is a division of the Department of Code Enforcement, City of South Bend, Indiana. Our adoption facility is located at 105 S. Olive St., in the old fire station across from the Olive St. post office.
Adoption and breed rescue activities are supplemented by a small group of volunteers who provide foster care for SBACC pets in their own homes.
SBACC is a non-profit, municipal organization. Donations to SBACC are tax deductible and go directly towards the care of South Bend's homeless animals. Monetary donations are always appreciated, and help provide veterinary care for animals who might otherwise be unadoptable.
We have a current need for durable dog toys. Kongs, Buster Cubes, and similar "interactive" type toys to help lonely dogs from being bored.
Our greatest wish is for every animal to be loved and properly cared for.
Sadly, we often get pets who aren't at their best in a shelter environment, or have need of one-on-one human contact on a temporary basis.
Approved foster homes for cats and dogs of all ages are always in short supply.
Adopting a Friend
Felines: The adoption fee for cats and kittens starts at $60 and includes the first set of Felo-vax vaccines, deworming, testing for FeLV, and an Avid microchip.
Additional fees may apply if the cat/kitten has been vaccinated against rabies and/or altered, with the maximum fee being $100.
Canines: The starting adoption fee for dogs and puppies is $75 and basic services include the first set of puppy shots, first deworming, a heartworm screening and an Avid microchip.
Additional fees may apply for pets that the shelter has had vaccinated against rabies or altered prior to adoption.
AND
Adopting a pet from us will qualify the new pet owner to a discount with many local veterinarians for your new pet's first health check appointment and the spay/neuter surgery. (Policies vary by veterinarian clinic so please check with your veterinarian for their policy.)
