Help by Sponsoring An Animal
By sponsoring an animal, you may help get it to a rescue group if it does not get adopted from our facility. Or your generaous donation could help cover travel expenses in getting it transported to that rescue.
If you are interested in this way of helping, please contact us at the email address below.

Want To Volunteer ?
If you are interested in helping this facility in some way, drop us an email message telling us about yourself and your experience in the animal welfare movement. Fulton County Animal Control does not use volunteers in the direct care of the animals at the kennel but there are other tasks that you can help with that can increase their chances of finding new homes. We are trying to increase our data base of rescue contacts across the Unites States and Canada and get transport groups lined us so we can move animals across the country to other facilities and rescues where they may have a better chance of finding new homes or getting the care and evaluations they may need to help them get adopted. There are adoption packets to prepare, adoption events where help can be used, phone calls to follow up on adoptions, other events we would like to develop in the community, donated supplies to find from donors, and donations to pick up including food from suppliers outside the area.

Foster Home Program Now In Place For Cats and Kittens
We have a Foster Home program now in place for pregnant and nursing mother cats and their litters and kittens under the age of 10 weeks. This is the portion of our cat population that ties up space and resources the most while not being adoptable. It is also the most vulnerable to the stresses and illnesses found in the shelter environment.
If you would like more information or want to apply to be a Foster parent, please contact by email.

Adopting a friend
This facility is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM, Wednesday from 9 AM to 4 PM, Saturdays from 9 AM to 5 PM, and Sundays from 1 PM to 5 PM. Other times can be arranged by call 574-893-4391.
Animals are available for adoption after the State-required stay at this facility. An adoption application may need to be completed. There is an adoption fee of $30 to $50 for dogs(no routine vet services are done on adult dogs), $40.00 to $50.00 for puppies(who will have their first vaccination, been defleaed, and had one deworming), $20 to $25 for cats($50 for purebreds), and $15 to $20 for kittens depending on vaccination status, whether any other vet services have been done, and if they have been in foster care.
Animals have been determined to be fit for adoption by the manager but are adopted as is. Animals are wormed and treated for fleas as part of housing management provided supplies are available.
Any purebred animals that are surrendered with their papers will be adopted out but papers will be given to the new owners only if the animal has been spayed or neutered or after proof is presented by the new owners that the surgery has been completed.
Animals that do not work out in the new home may be returned but no fees will be refunded. Each animal is eligible for a special offer of ShelterCare Pet Insurance and comes with an adoption kit. Should problems arise following an adoption, please check out information available through the Petfinders library or contact by email Fulton County Animal Control with questions at fultonco.petfinders@yahoo.com.
We encourage all potential adopters to give serious thought to the responsibility that comes with giving an animal a permanent long-term home. Discuss the idea with all members of the family. Animals need regular veterinarian checks after initial vaccinations and spay or neuter surgery. There is the cost of food, proper housing conditions, even if outside, license or tag fees, and knowledge of training and care.
Give careful thought to adoption if small children are in the household. Please reconsider adoption if you rent. Get landlord's approval for an animal and discuss what happens to this animal should you need to move.
For more information on animals and breeds, visit your local library, find information on Petfinders.com, Library, or contact Fulton County Animal Control by email at fultonco.petfinders@yahoo.com.
Helpful Guidelines for Pet Ages and sizes.
Animals from newborns to 6 months are listed as "baby", those from 6 to 24 months(2 years) are listed as "young", those from 2 to 8 years(for dogs) or 2 to 10 years(for cats) are listed as "adult", and those over 8 years(for dogs) or over 10 years(for cats) are listed as "senior".
Dogs are small if from 1 to 25 pounds, medium if weighing 26 to 50 pounds, large if from 51 to 100 pounds, and are listed as extra-large if over 100 pounds in weight as estimated for their adult size.

Management reserves the right to refuse adoption to anyone for any reason. Potential adoptors must be 18 years of age or older or come with their legal guardians before adopting.
Please remember that you are adopting a shelter animal who has been uprooted from its home for a variety of reasons including moving, abandonment, death of owner, or abuse. These animals will need a period of time and a lot of your understanding and help in adjusting to a new home. If you have any problems with an adoption from this facility or any questions about care, training, or behavior problems, email us at the address at the bottom of this page and we will try to help. We want your adoption experience to be a positive one and we want the animal to have a long term home.
If you have given careful thought to taking on the responsibility of animal guardianship, the rewards you reap will be immeasurable. Then help save a life and visit Fulton County Animal Control at the address below.
