We care about the health and well-being of Cocker Spaniels...

Indy Cocker Haven is dedicated to the rescue of Cocker Spaniels. We rescue Cockers in the states of Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio primarily, but also aid in the rescue of Cockers across the USA.

We take in the unwanted and the lost...

The mission of the Indy Cocker Haven is to
-accept unwanted or stray Cocker Spaniels from individuals, shelters and humane societies across the midwest,
-evaluate their temperament, age and general health,
-seek the appropriate treatments and in some cases, basic training, and then
-place these unwanted animals in suitable new homes where they will be loved and given care for the rest of their lives.

Before you consider adopting a Cocker Spaniel, understand their needs...

-Cockers need your time and care. Cockers love people and thrive on human companionship. The ears and coat of your cocker will require extra care - comb your dog and clean its ears at least once a week.
-Cockers need regular exercise for their health and happiness. Every dog will need to get out and stretch its legs daily.
-Cockers need routine vet care. Vaccinate annually.
-Cockers need loving homes. Cockers should not live outdoors - they need to live indoors. All varieties of Cockers need rescue and forever homes. You may miss out on the perfect fit for your family if you only consider one color or variety of Cocker. Both male and female Cockers in all varieties make wonderful pets and companions!

Here's what to expect from our Cockers...

-Our rescued dogs are generally between the ages of 1 year and 5 years old and come in all sizes, shapes and colors. We professionally groom each rescue before placing them for adoption. They all make beautiful pets.
-Our rescued Cockers are spayed/neutered, have all shots and are heartworm negative. Before any Cocker Spaniel is available for adoption, we make sure that it has received a veterinary exam, is up to date on all vaccinations, is spayed or neutered and is heartworm tested (negative).
-We place well-behaved dogs. We evaluate the temperament of each dog we rescue. Most of our dogs are housebroken and all are sweet-tempered, loving pets. We do not accept dogs that have bitten or are aggressive toward humans.
-Our rescue fees vary by dog - generally $200-$300 per dog. We determine these fees based on the cost of care and the dog's adoptability. Older dogs are often less expensive than younger dogs.

Adopting a Cocker from Indy Cocker Haven...

If you would like to find out more about one of the Cockers posted on this website, contact us using the information listed below. To assure you have a successful match with your rescued Cocker, we will require some basic information about you before adoption. So we will ask about your family, your home, your yard, your general working hours, the vet and the groomer you will use and any references who can attest to your ability to care for one of our Cockers.

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS...

We are always in need of volunteers who are willing to provide FOSTER HOMES for our Cockers while we get them ready for their forever homes. We also need volunteers to retrieve dogs from local shelters and TRANSPORT them to foster homes or transport them to vet appointments. Caring for rescued Cockers is very rewarding work - you'll be highly compensated in doggie kisses and tail wags!
