Who We Are & What We Do

The mission of Ark Animal Rescue & Adoption, Inc. is to improve the lives of companion animals by finding them forever homes. We also help to keep the Ark Animal Sanctuary no-kill adoptable by providing health care and educating the public.
Ark Animal Rescue & Adoption, Inc. is a small, non-profit organization in LaGrange County, Indiana. We currently manage the Ark Animal Sanctuary. The Sanctuary is very small and insufficient for the needs of our community. Ark helps coordinate most adoptions and rescues from the Sanctuary. We provide placement of animals in their forever homes, with foster families, and reputable rescues throughout the country. We provide medical care for many of the Sanctuary animals. We also help with transportation to and from the rescues when needed.

We are always looking for volunteers. If you would like to help in some way, please let us know! There are lots of opportunities available.

As a non-profit organization, Ark relies heavily on donations from folks like you to continue the work that we do. Without your help, we would not be able to pay the medical bills for those animals who come to us sick or injured, pay for the food provided to our foster families, or even to pay the electric bill. We need your help! If you would like to make a donation to help us continue our mission, please send it to: Ark Animal Rescue & Adoption, Inc., P.O. Box 95, Howe, IN 46746 or stop by our bookstore to drop it off. Remember, your donation is tax deductible so be sure to include your name and address for us to send the receipt. If you wish to remain anonymous, that is o.k., too.

Ark's Paws-n-Claws Bookstore

Come visit our bookstore located on the square at 309 Defiance Street in Howe, Indiana (right on State Road 120). All books, new or used, are donated to us for resale. You pick the price, all we ask is a donation for the books you choose. Come check us out! Please visit us Monday-Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. You can contact the bookstore at 260-562-2100.

Adopting a friend

It is very easy to adopt a rescued pet and they are always grateful that you have saved their lives. An adoption application and contract must be filled out and signed and references will be checked. We also reserve the right to perform a home visit to complete the adoption process. Ark's adoption fee for dogs range from $0 - $135 for dog adoptions. The range of fees depends on vaccinations, age, and whether or not the dog has been spayed or neutered. There is also a $15.00 microchip fee which is optional except for pit bulls. Microchips are mandatory for pit bulls. The fees are to be made payable to the Ark Animal Sanctuary for all animals leaving the Sanctuary. This service is performed at the Ark Animal Sanctuary prior to the animal going home. The adoption fee for cats is $25.00. If medical treatments have been done $50.

Ark requires all animals to be spayed or neutered and verification of such will be required within a given time frame. If the adopter can provide paperwork showing they had the animal spayed or neutered in the allotted time, a $25.00 refund will be given for dogs and $25 for cats.

If you live outside of LaGrange County, that is ok! We have adopted to many families in Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, and many others. As long as you are willing to make the trip to pick up the animal being adopted, you are eligible to apply. We will assist with transportation whenever possible.

We are VERY rescue friendly, we charge no pull fee and help provide transportation.

Become a Foster Parent

We are always looking for more foster families. Would you like to become a foster parent? It's easy! We will match a pet with your home life and you care for the pet just as if they are your own until their "Forever Home" is found. Ark will help support the pet with food and necessary veterinary services. You would, in turn, love the pet and help it to become a good family member to prepare it for adoption. All animals in the foster program are posted on the internet so prospective families can meet them.

We depend on our volunteers for everything from transportation to running the bookstore. If you are interested in volunteering some of your time to help Ark, please let us know. Volunteer applications are available in the bookstore and a background check will be run on all applicants. Sign up today!
