Cat Snip in Your Zip
Do you live in the 47710 zip code in Evansville, IN? Thanks to a grant from Petsmart Charities, the VHS is now offering FREE spay/neuter and a FREE rabies vaccine (if it is due) for your cats at no cost to you! Just call or email the VHS at (812) 426-2563 ext. 216, email@example.com, to make an appointment!
This grant is currently available for the 47710 zip code only. Please consider making a donation to Cat Snip in Your Zip so that we can expand this program into other zip codes, and help us prevent thousands of unwanted litters of kittens.
Program is only available to domesticated pet cats or free-roaming stray cats. Feral cats are NOT eligible. (If you must trap the cat and cannot handle it enough to get it into a standard pet carrier, the cat is not eligible for Cat Snip in Your Zip. Please refer to our Trap-Neuter-Release guidelines for feral cats.)
Cans for Pets
We now recycle aluminum cat food cans! In partnership with the Alcoa Foundations and Pennsylvania Resource Council, we launched the "Cans for Pets" initiative in September 2013. Please bring your clean aluminum pet food cans to the shelter and deposit them into the big blue "Cans for Pets" bins. One bin is located inside the shelter and can be accessed during business hours; the other is located outside at the back of the building near the intakes lobby. The VHS receives 5 cents from every can recycled!
We also accept aluminum soda cans in the red cage at the back entrance of the building. Follow the sign for "Animal Surrenders & Deliveries" to drop off aluminum cans of any kind.

The Vanderburgh Humane Society, Inc., a tax exempt, 501(c)(3) organization, was founded in 1957 to provide protection for homeless animals, intervention for animals in abusive environments, and community education to encourage prevention of animal abuse and pet overpopulation. The VHS receives no tax-based funding whatsoever. Therefore, it depends on the generosity of the corporate community and the public at large to continue, and hopefully expand, the much needed services it offers.
Located in Evansville, Indiana, the VHS serves as a surrender and adoption agency for unwanted pets. In addition to finding homes for animals, the VHS also works to build public awareness of the problem of homeless and abandoned pets. Through special events, media coverage and other outreach activities we hope to reduce the flow of animals to our shelter.
The Vanderburgh Humane Society, Inc. is committed to the elimination of pet-overpopulation in our community, the prevention of animal cruelty & neglect, and the promotion of the human-animal bond.
