Happy Tails Resale Shop Opens!
The VHS is excited to announce the opening of our Happy Tails Resale Shop! This resale shop will offer all types of great items for sale. Household items, clothing, holiday items, books, furniture, pet related items and more.
All of the proceeds from the shop will go back to the VHS to support the programs and mission.
Our volunteers have been working hard to get the shop set up so they can open on Saturday, November 8th. For the remainder of 2014, the shop will be open every other Saturday. With more volunteers we hope to be open more days each month in 2015.
2014 Open Saturday Dates:
November 8th & 22nd
December 6th & 20th
8:30 AM - 3:00 PM
Quality Items Needed!
We will accept donated items for the resale shop every Wednesday and every Saturday that we are open. Your donated items are tax deductible to the extent of the law.
The VHS accepts quality donated items for resale. Donations must be in clean and reusable condition.
Donating unusable items costs the VHS money that is needed for our animals and programs. It is expensive to repair or dispose of unusable items. If you wouldn’t give it to a friend, please don’t give it to us. We reserve the right to decline a donation that is not suitable for our shop.
The Happy Tails Resale Shop is run entirely by VHS volunteers. We need volunteers who are willing to work shifts on days we are open and to help go through donated items to restock shelves. While we are currently opening every other Saturday, if we have more volunteers sign up to help, we will be able to extend the number of days each month that we can run the shop. If you are interested in volunteering for the Resale Shop, please email Cyndi Donley at: firstname.lastname@example.org
Cat Snip in Your Zip
Do you live in the 47710 zip code in Evansville, IN? Thanks to a grant from Petsmart Charities, the VHS is now offering FREE spay/neuter and a FREE rabies vaccine (if it is due) for your cats at no cost to you! Just call or email the VHS at (812) 426-2563 ext. 216, email@example.com, to make an appointment!
This grant is currently available for the 47710 zip code only. Please consider making a donation to Cat Snip in Your Zip so that we can expand this program into other zip codes, and help us prevent thousands of unwanted litters of kittens.
Program is only available to domesticated pet cats or free-roaming stray cats. Feral cats are NOT eligible. (If you must trap the cat and cannot handle it enough to get it into a standard pet carrier, the cat is not eligible for Cat Snip in Your Zip. Please refer to our Trap-Neuter-Release guidelines for feral cats.)
Cans for Pets
We now recycle aluminum cat food cans! In partnership with the Alcoa Foundations and Pennsylvania Resource Council, we launched the "Cans for Pets" initiative in September 2013. Please bring your clean aluminum pet food cans to the shelter and deposit them into the big blue "Cans for Pets" bins. One bin is located inside the shelter and can be accessed during business hours; the other is located outside at the back of the building near the intakes lobby. The VHS receives 5 cents from every can recycled!
We also accept aluminum soda cans in the red cage at the back entrance of the building. Follow the sign for "Animal Surrenders & Deliveries" to drop off aluminum cans of any kind.

The Vanderburgh Humane Society, Inc., a tax exempt, 501(c)(3) organization, was founded in 1957 to provide protection for homeless animals, intervention for animals in abusive environments, and community education to encourage prevention of animal abuse and pet overpopulation. The VHS receives no tax-based funding whatsoever. Therefore, it depends on the generosity of the corporate community and the public at large to continue, and hopefully expand, the much needed services it offers.
Located in Evansville, Indiana, the VHS serves as a surrender and adoption agency for unwanted pets. In addition to finding homes for animals, the VHS also works to build public awareness of the problem of homeless and abandoned pets. Through special events, media coverage and other outreach activities we hope to reduce the flow of animals to our shelter.
The Vanderburgh Humane Society, Inc. is committed to the elimination of pet-overpopulation in our community, the prevention of animal cruelty & neglect, and the promotion of the human-animal bond. Alter. Adopt. Adore.
Adoption & animal viewing hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm CST. We are open for one additional hour (12:00-7:00) on Fridays. Adoptions must be in progress 30 minutes prior to closing.
General business hours begin at 9:00 am, Tuesday through Saturday in the front lobby. Again, VIEWING & ADOPTION HOURS DO NOT BEGIN UNTIL NOON.
To make an appointment to surrender an animal, please call 812-426-2563 and dial the Intakes/Surrenders extension.
