The Blackford County Animal Shelter, Inc. is a non-profit organization. We provide animal control for Blackford County, Hartford City, Montpelier, and Shamrock Lakes.
Our mission is to prevent cruelty and neglect to homeless, abandoned, and unwanted animals by adopting healthy animals to good homes.
We are a very rescue friendly shelter and can often help with transports.
We want to involve the community in our efforts to care for the animals. We WANT and NEED Volunteers - to walk the dogs, play with the cats, foster animals until we find a permanet home for them, help with fund raisers, donate needed items, bleach, laundry detergent, scoopable litter, food, toys for cats and dogs, metal food bowls, nylon collars and leashes to be given out to adoptive parents, blankets, towels, paper towel, trash bags.
Adopting a friend
We always have a lot of nice dogs and cats available for adoption at the shelter. Our adoption requirements are that you must provide a loving home and all animals are spayed or neutered. To adopt one of our pets you have to fill out an adoption application and our adoption fees are $65 for cats and kittens/$95 for dogs and puppies. Occasionally we have some senior dogs that we are able to adopt for less.
