Cache Creek is located in the rolling hills of Union County and we travel to the Joliet areas of Shorewood or Naperville every other weekend for adoption events. We would like to do more events locally, but we are so busy with the upstate events that those will be few and far between at this time. We very much encourage adoptions directly from our shelter, but visits are 'by appointment only' at this time. Please visit our second Petfinder site. On the left-hand side of a Petfinder listing, scroll down to search for another shelter. Ask for 'Shorewood, IL' and 'Cache Creek Animal Rescue North'. That should get you to our full listings.
We receive animals from no less than eleven Southern Illinois counties, their pounds and shelters. Many of these come from very bleak situations-- not enough food, no medical care, raised in cages, etc. We have pulled many lately with skin issues and immune system issues (one from a breeder with three sets of teeth). We provide the best we can and send them hopefully into their forever homes.
Being directly on the banks of a tributary of the Cache River, we flood way too often. Consequently, we are currently raising funds to build our shelter out of the flood zone. Just this year, January 1, 2012, we opened our low-cost spay/neuter clinic out on the Lick Creek Blacktop. Dr. Nancy Kucera is our clinic veterinarian; most locals are very familiar with Dr. Kucera. For more information about the clinic, please call 618-833-4608 on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. No adoptable animals are sheltered at the clinic.
