News

Help Save Pets has many volunteer and temporary care giver opportunities. If you are interested in helping these wonderful animals who cannot help themselves please contact us at 815/436-2700.

Who We Are

The Mission of Help Save Pets is to offer shelter and care to as many homeless and unwanted pets as possible, to prepare these animals for introduction into loving and lifelong homes, to educate the public to the plight of unwanted animals, offer solutions for ending pet overpopulation, and to assist pet owners in maintaining their pets with training, medical services and behavioral counseling.

Adoption Guidelines

Applicants must be 21 years old and provide picture identification. Before interacting with an animal, an adoption questionnaire must be completed. It will be reviewed by an HSP staff member and discussed with the applicant. If the applicants home is a rental/lease property, a copy of the rental agreement or by-laws describing pet allowances/restrictions must be reviewed by an HSP staff member and discussed with the applicant. If you are interested in a particular animal, you and the entire family, including children, living in the same household with the pet need to spend some time at the HSP facility getting acquainted with the animal. In addition, you are incouraged to bring other dogs that will be living in the same household to meet the dog you are interested in. Please bring vaccines records with you. These will be required for adoption. (Rabies, Distemper, Bordetella, Heartworm test results, negative fecal results) Adoption fees range from $79 to $299 and are required before an animal leaves the HSP facility. This fee includes spay or neuter, rabies vaccine, first distemper vaccine, fecal test, first worming, heartworm test (if applicable), canine bordetella vaccine, feline leukemia test (if applicable), and an Avid microchip identification implant for the adopted animal. Heartworm prevention must also be purchased at the time of adoption. (Prices vary depending on type of prevention and size of the animal.)

Adopting a pet is a big responsibility and should be considered very seriously. Each animal has unique characteristics and special needs; in order to help us place our animals in a suitable household the completion of an Adoption Questionnaire is required and can be requested from our main website at www.plainfieldhumane.com
