Our Featured Pet...

Animal Rescue of Southern Illinois (ARSI) is back in operation! Our founder, Cheryl Woodrome, died of a heart attack in June. This is a huge loss to us. She was our director and the most committed animal rescuer that many of us have ever seen. We have our license in place again and are able to place our fostered pets. While we won't be able to operate at the same level that Cheryl was able to-we will continue in her honor and we will strive to get there! Please note the updates of our new mailing and e-mail addresses. We will continue to update this site with new information as we recover from this devastating loss.

ARSI Tees have arrived. If you would like to purchase a t-shirt and help support animal rescue, please e-mail us at animalrescueofsouthernillinois@gmail.com . We have several colors available in several shapes & sizes!

New Development - Animal Rescue of Southern Illinois (ARSI) and Washington County Partners for Pets (Partners for Pets) are participating in a program that will help save many animal lives in Southern Illinois! ARSI is currently operating as a network of foster homes and we don't have enough resources to house all of the animals we would like to save. As such, we have recently coordinated efforts with Partners for Pets and with a rescue organization in the Chicago area that networks with "no kill" rescue groups with extremely high adoption rates. Through our combined efforts, we are able to rescue dogs from our local Animal Control (which is a "kill" facility) and transport them to the "no kill" facilities up North.

Here's how it works - we send volunteers from ARSI and Partners for Pets to the Animal Control facility to take pictures of the adoptable dogs and the pictures are posted online at www.washingtoncountyanimalcontrol.webs.com. The rescue coordinator (Illinois Animal Rescue, Inc.) distributes the pictures to her network of rescues in the Chicago area and they, in turn, "claim" which dogs they can rescue. A list is sent back to us and we are required to have the dogs heartworm tested and vaccinated before they are eligible for transport. We spend, on average, $40 per dog that we rescue from the "kill" shelter and send to the "no kill" shelter. Our first transport sent over 10 dogs & puppies on tranport and we continue coordinating these rescue efforts with the help of Washington County Partners for Pets. Since we began this effort in July, no dogs have been euthanized at Animal Control due to over-population. If anyone would like to help by "sponsoring" a dog to go up North, please contact us.

Who We Are

*Our Mission* Be an advocate for the safety and well-being of companion animals by helping them find quality forever homes and to educate the general public of the proper care and treatment of companion animals, including the need to spay/neuter our pets. We are licensed by the Illinois State Department of Agriculture. This is a No Kill Facility.

Adopting a friend - The adoption fee is based on the size & breed of the dog as well as the vetting involved, but it is generally between $150-$200. This cost includes Spay/Neuter, microchip, Rabies/Distemper Vaccine, H.W Test and preventative, flea control and a complete physical. All homes will be screened for the proper fit. We have a 4 page Adoption Contract we can go over on the phone and finish the day you come see your animal of choice should you decide to adopt. Your new pet is given a 7 day grace period to win you over. If this does not happen, you may bring him/her back and receive a full refund of the adoption fee. Our door is always open for all of our adopted pets should you experience life changes that affect your ability to continue caring for the pet. Thank You in Advance for Joining us
