AnnieMore About Annie...

**UPDATE 10/21/09**
Annie has her cart and her surgery!! We received almost $1,500 donations so far, and just went ahead with the surgery.  We are still approx $500 short to pay for it, but all's well that ends well and Annie couldn't be happier.  Pictures of Annie with her cart soon.  Annie will be at Aurora Petsmart THIS WEEKEND (Rt 59 & Jefferson near Meijer).  Come see her! Thanks guys!!!  ANNIE IS AWESOME, BUT SHE STILL NEEDS YOUR HELP!!!

Annie is not up for adoption yet, but she is up for DONATIONS.  Miss Annie was stepped on and has a broken left leg and has a spinal fracture between L5 and L6, so she can not walk. Miss Annie ’zooms’ around by dragging herself with her front feet. (No feeling sorry for Miss Annie, guys!)  Miss Annie is alive and well and although her prior owners abandoned her with this injury, she is quickly on her way to a bigger and better life.

Annie does needs your help though...PURRS has already had her evaluated by a neurologist and it appears we may be able to get some function back with surgery.  Annie already has tingling and some feeling down her right leg (yay).  We have another appointment Tuesday (9/30/2009).  Either way though, we need to get Miss Annie a cart so she can zoom around easier and not aggravate the fractures now or after potential surgery.

Carts are custom made and Annie is already measured. We are expecting a cost of $400 for the cart and potentially $1500-$2000 for the surgery.  If we can raise $150 today (9/29/2009), then we will order the cart and have it here in under 2 weeks!

Fundraising to date has raised $1,500.  Annie has touched some hearts out there. If she touches yours and you are able to donate, please do so. You can donate here online or send a check. Our tax ID # is 26-1441871 and we are a 501c3 so your donation is tax deductible. If you need a receipt, please email (we automatically send receipts for donations over $100).

About PURRS

PURRS Naperville is a no kill cat rescue, adoption and education resource.  We are based in Naperville,IL and have our cats in foster homes, Petcos and Petsmarts.  PURRS was founded by Rachael Resk, nationally known animal communicator and behaviorist.  Find out more about Rachael at her website http://www.rachaelresk.com

PURRS goal is a no kill DuPage county.

Towards that end, we are doing the following:

  1. Contacting and unifying the other local cat rescues and open admission shelters in DuPage county towards this common goal.
  2. Establishing consistent guidelines for adoption and euthanasia reporting and statistics.
  3. Publishing a guide to what efforts are already underway.
  4. Supporting Feral Fixers in their efforts towards developing legalized TNR in DuPage County.  PURRS also places Feral Fixers trapped friendly cats.
  5. Providing community and adopter education on feline behavior issues and resolutions and general humane education.
  6. Providing rehabilitation, socialization and rehoming assistance to stray and unwanted cats.

We DO take special needs cats and one of our favorites is our very own, Charlie, (pictured above). Charlie was born with two legs but gets around just fine and brings a smile to everyone he meets. Charlies joins us at many events. Come out and meet him.

We believe and know that animals have feelings wants and needs too and treat them accordingly. No cat is just a number with us.
