Gussie is an awesome cattle dog. She loves all people, dogs and cats. Gussie loves attention. She loves to go for walks. She is house broke and crate trained.
Being a lover of the ACD breed you can't look the other way and not help the dogs in need. Especially, the ones on death row in the local kill shelters. There are so many nice ACD's that are turned in because people can't afford to feed them, some owners don't want to take the time for them, some owners have lost their homes and/or farms and some dogs were just lost. There is absolutely nothing wrong with these dogs. They were supposed to be a commitment for life.
After the shelter dog has been approved by Sue Christianson to come into the rescue. All dogs are fully vetted which includes spayed/neutered, dewormed, vaccinated, heartworm tested (if positive they are treated for heartworms with immicide by vet), the rescue dogs are given HW preventative monthly and microchipped. While awaiting adoption, most of the cattle dogs live in foster homes or on farms where we attempt to evaluate their temperaments and work on teaching them basic manners. We place cattle dogs into homes best suited for that individual dog.
