We have several nice cattle dogs (aka blue/red heelers) for adoption. Some play ball and/or frisbee, Some have the drive needed for rally, obedience, search and rescue, agility, and more. We do get in dogs that will work cattle and then we get dogs in that have no interest in herding cows. Come take a look, you will surely take one home !

Pet of Week -Abby

Abby is a beautiful blue female with a big heart. Abby is house broke and crate trained. Abby sits and comes on command. She likes other dogs and cats. She will chase a cat if it runs but she is not cat aggressive. Abby comes to us from Georgia. She was treated for heartworms. She will be up for adoption in July. Abby loves attention and has to be right next to you. This is one special dog.

We have several dogs in foster homes in Joliet, Marseilles, Evanston, and Peoria area making it easier for an already approved interested party to meet the dog or dogs. Our goal is to have more fosters around the Chicagoland area. Wherever you live, you can be of help. Our foster homes are registered with the Ilinois Department of AG. Australian Cattle Dog Rescue of Illinois is ALWAYS in need of additional foster homes. If you believe you have the time, commitment and experience to welcome a cattle dog into your home, WE NEED YOUR HELP. We are looking forward to growing throughout Illinois , through the use of foster homes. The more foster homes we have the more kill shelter Australian Cattle Dogs we can save from death. Who we Are

Australian Cattle Dog Rescue of Illinois is a all volunteer rescue. We are applying for our 501c3 in 2009. Our goal is to rescue cattle dogs in need, place them into responsible homes and to educate the public about these wonderful dogs. Once in awhile if we have room we will take in a cattle dog mix but prefer to take in cattle dogs that look more like the breed standard.

Being a lover of the ACD breed you can't look the other way and not help the dogs in need. Especially, the ones on death row in the local kill shelters. There are so many nice ACD's that are turned in because people can't afford to feed them, some owners don't want to take the time for them, some owners have lost their homes and/or farms and some dogs were just lost. There is absolutely nothing wrong with these dogs. They were supposed to be a commitment for life.

Where Do Our Rescues Dogs Come From ?

The majority of our cattle dogs come from animal control, humane societies(keep in mind humane societies also kill when they haven't any room) within Illinois, MO., KY., IN., and surrounding states. We have gotten shelter cattle dogs from Texas, Miss., Georgia and Nebraska.

After entering the program, our cattle dogs are fully vetted which includes spayed/neutered, dewormed, vaccinated, heartworm tested (given HW preventative) and microchipped. While awaiting adoption, most of the cattle dogs live in foster homes or on farms where we attempt to evaluate their temperaments and work on teaching them basic manners. We place cattle dogs into homes best suited for that individual dog.

Adoption

Adoption is very easy. You can find an application on our main website at Adoption Application or just ask for an application, we will e-mail you one, then fill out the application and return to us, wait to be approved(done within 24 hours). Then, we will try to match you with your new best friend. We will ship dogs out of state by transport or airlines to approved homes. If dog is shipped by airplane. Adoptee will be responsible for shipping costs (airline ticket and health certificate). Adoption fee reimburses the rescue for some of medical cost invested in the dogs. When rescueing dogs no one makes money, in fact we put a lot of our own money into saving these neat cattle dogs. Adoption fee is $200.00. Please have an application filled out and be approved prior to coming to visit that way you can take one home if you wish.

Come visit these beautiful dogs on the farm or in a foster home environment, just call us and we will set up an appointment. Come see the dogs play, having fun and in contact with many different species of animals. We are open seven days a week by appointment only . If you call about one of these nice dogs: leave a clear message with your name, phone number, date and time you called. If for some reason we have not call you back within 24 hours please call again we did not receive your message.
