We have described this beautiful girl as special needs simply because of her age. She is a lovely cat, in good condition who will follow you around and chat all day. Her dad was devastated that he had to give her up after losing his home. Can we give them both a light at the end of the tunnel with a wonderful new home for her?

Syd could not get any sweeter or cuter. She loves playing with her friends Rhodes and Lynette. All she wants is love!

Niki - Husky Mix


What a beautiful girl and wonderful with other dogs and children.She is just a little too high energy for parents in a townhouse. Is there a yard at your house and maybe a dog friend or two to play with? She is currently fostered by her parents until a perfect forever home can be found. Please call us to set up a meeting. Niki is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.

Rocky - American Staffordshire Terrier


This poor, sweet boy was taken in by authorities nearly starved to death. All it took was a few good meals and he is back to his playful self. Rock is good with most other dogs and loves children but please no cats!!Let's make the second part of his life a happy one!

Come Visit Us!

Visitors are always welcome at the farm in Barrington where most of our furry kids spend their time when not in foster or visiting at adoption events. A few of our kitties that are up for adoption can be seen daily at two Petsmart locations. The Petsmarts are located at 2590 N. Sutton Road in Hoffman Estates IL, 60192, (phone 847-645-3366) and 428 Randall Road, South Elgin, IL 60177, (phone 847-488-1732).

Who We Are

Fur Keeps Animal rescue, Inc. has benefited needy animals since 1999. To date, Fur Keeps has rescued hundreds of animals primarily horses, cats, and dogs that have been rescued from kill shelters or bad situations then the animal is rehabilitated and placed into loving forever homes. We are licensed with the Illinois Department of Agriculture and are not-for-profit 5013C.

Our mission is to promote respect and compassion for all animals as partners in the human existence. We believe in the Triangle of Care: education for responsible ownership, balanced healthcare for our animals, well rounded training for both handlers and companions, the rescue and the rehabiliation of unwanted animals along with the prevention of animal cruelty.

Did you know that rescuing a cat or dog costs on average of $250 just in medical care and that cost rockets to over $2000 to rehabilitate a rescued horse? These costs do not include board and training. These are just the bare necesseties to help these animals recover enough to find loving and caring homes and help them adjust to their new environments.

With your help we can broaden our ability to help animals in need, instead of relying on a few kind individuals.

We are also in need of loving foster homes to place some of these animals in while they are waiting for their permanent homes. We are aware that in the recent past other charitable institutions have come under scrutiny due to allocation of funds. Please note that all contributions go directly to animal care, operating costs and that no person involved in this organization draws a salary or wage in any form.

Adopting a friend

Fur Keeps Animal Rescue, Inc. provides the best medical care possible for all canines, felines and equine who come into our organization. Each dog is examined by a licensed vet, given vaccinations for Distemper, Rabies, and Bordatella, Heartworm Tested, micro-chipped, spayed/neutered and have been temperment tested, and felines and equines are given the same attention . If needed, our animals are given additional medical attention such as surgeries, and even dental work. Our animal friends are either home-fostered or boarded at professional clinics while in our care. All potential adoptive families must complete our adoption screening process which includes an adoption form and contract, an interview, a homecheck and a personal reference check. Home or apartment renters are required to provide proof of lease and permission from the landlord that pets are permitted in the residence. Please know that FKAR also performs a home check for each potential adopter and requires proof of identity prior to finalizing the adoption. FKAR's standard adoption fee for dogs is $250 and cats are $125, which helps cover a portion of the animal's expenses while in our care. FKAR primarily adopts dogs into homes located in northern IL, southern WI, and northwest IN regions. Post-adoption, FKAR continues to provide follow up and guidance to adoptive families.
