It is best to call and let the facility know that you are on your way and what time they can expect you. Please email one of the email jeffcoac@att.net for more info!! Our website is updated as often as possible. If you are looking for something special please call and ask we may have just what you are looking for and haven't put the picture up yet. Many animals are sweet and healthy. We do not adopt out aggressive animals.

We are finding many owner surrenders are because people can't not afford to feed these animals anymore or decided they don't want to take the time for them. There is absolutely nothing wrong with these animals. When you adopt an animal be sure you can make a commitment to it for it's lifetime. Being put in an Animal Control is very traumatic for these animals. Most are so scared they just shake for the first 24 hrs. Evening and Weekend email addresses: jeffcoac@att.net Jefferson County Animal Control needs your help!! Our facility has received more and more animals each year. In the past 12 months more than 3500 dogs, cats, and other animals have arrived at this facility. Most of these animals are young, healthy, friendly pets waiting for a new home.

Please take a look at our adoptable pets. If you see an animal you are interested in PLEASE DO NOT WAIT TO CALL. Our facility fills up very fast and we can not keep them very long. If you wait a day or two while you are thinking about the animal, it may be gone. Let us know that you are considering the animal so we try and keep it a little longer. If you have lost your pet, please do not hesitate to come into the facility and/or call to see if your pet may be there. It's always a good idea to check everyday if possible. We have several more animals than are photoed.

About Us

The Jefferson County Animal Control is a non-profit organization that is a county funded shelter. We are the homes for the animals who were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time or just surrendered by their owners. Some didn't find their way home and were without an I.D tag to reunite them with their owners. We get so many new animals in our shelter every day, they all have a very limited time to be adopted. The shelter can't holds animals until we find the perfect home, there are simply too many arriving on a daily basis. All these animals need to move out as quickly as they come in. Many people are bringing litters of animals in and we do not have the space we desperately need for them to have a chance. Keep in mind, this is a county kill shelter so animals have a very limited time here.

Can You Help?

We always need donations of various kinds. We need clean clothing as that is what we use to put down for the dogs to lay on instead of laying on the concrete. So don't throw those old clothes away bring them to the shelter and help keep a puppy warm and off the concrete to sleep We also need help transporting animals to the vet for doctoring, tests, and some shots. Here are just a few of the items we need!
