Sponsors Needed:

Vegas is in need of Sponsors to help us with her medical bills. Vegas has required extensive medical care. Her medical bills are close to $5,000.00.

VEGAS

Meet Vegas...she is a beautiful female pit bull who is approximately 18 months old. She is a very sweet girl, who despite all the previous abuse she suffered, her body being in so much pain, and her being very ill....just wants to love & be loved! Vegas is incredibly affectionate & just loves everyone she meets! Vegas is a complete snuggle bug! Vegas is also 100% dog friendly.

Vegas is looking for a foster or forever home!

Here is her story....

Several weeks ago Vegas was abandoned on the door step of a vet clinic. Vegas was badly injured, her hip was fractured, and she was very ill. It appears someone kicked her or beat her, and neglected her.

Her injury required surgery. The surgery Vegas required needed to be performed by a surgeon who specialized in injuries like Vegas had sustained. This surgeon was unable to operate on Vegas right away. In addition to her injury, she had an almost deadly case of round worms (a severe infestation), and other health issues.

In the meantime, we did our best to manage her pain, and began treating everything else that was wrong with her. A temporary foster family took Vegas home to their house to give her the best care possible. During a snowstorm (this storm was so bad, blizzard warnings had been issued) Vegas took a turn for the worse.

Vegas became lethargic, would not get up, was not eating or drinking water and was running a high temperature of 104. Our foster family rushed Vegas to an emergency vet clinic!

At the emergency clinic Vegas was stabilized, and tests were run. It seems that all of the stress, from everything this poor dog had going on...just took its toll on her body, and she crashed. The very next day the surgeon was contacted and it was decided Vegas needed immediate surgery.

Lucky for Vegas she has received the best care possible and is doing better now. She is on her way to recovery - prognosis is good - it will be slow, but she will get there. Vegas will require physical therapy in the coming months, and supplements to aid in her full recovery.

A&S Rescue took a gamble on Vegas! Vegas is definitely a dog worth saving, giving a second chance to, and well worth ten times the amount of costs associated with her medical care.

**March 30, 2007 Update**

A few days ago Vegas was running a high fever of 104 again. Her foster mom immediately took her to the vet.....It was discovered that a part of one of her baby teeth had not fallen out, and was the source of an infection, hence the high fever. The vet put her under, pulled the tooth out, cleaned the infection up, and put her on antibiotics. Vegas will be fine once she has had a full course of the antibiotics.

Poor Vegas...she just cannot get a break.

04/20/08 Update: With all of her health issues behind her now, Vegas is just a happy and healthy girl who is still looking for her forever home!

ABOUT US:

A & S Rescue is a small rescue group dedicated to finding permanent and loving homes for American Staffordshire Terriers ("AmStaffs") and American Pit Bull Terriers ("Pit Bulls").

Prior to placement, all dogs are spayed and /or neutered and up to date on necessary vaccinations relevant to the dog's age. Our dogs live in foster homes with foster families, where volunteers evaluate the dog's temperment, learn their behavioral quirks and work on basic obedience and manners. We endeavor to place each AmStaff and Pit Bull into a home best-suited for each individual dog.

We carefully screen all applicants; a home visit and reference checks are required to ensure that the adoption is a good match- one that provides a permanent and loving home for the dog! Further, we maintain contact with our adoptive families and encourage them to contact us with any questions or concerns.

If for ANY reason the Rescue AmStaff or Pit Bull is not working out in its new home, we require the dog to be returned to us as stated in our adoption contract. Upon return, we will reevaluate the dog and possibly consider placement into a different, more suitable home.

Under no circumstances will we place our Rescue AmStaffs or Pit Bulls into homes where the dog will be subjected to dog fighting. We are strongly opposed to all forms of dog fighting and similar forms of animal abuse.
