Rocky is a handsome shepherd mix, 8 or 9 years old with a cropped tail. He has been well vetted including teeth cleaning. Rocky keeps tabs on the other 3 dogs in his household, all females. He is ready and willing to be a good people companion especially where there is a home with a fenced in yard. He is very low maintenance - very happy on a comfortable pillow. He is in foster care with two small dogs and two cats. He is good with the dogs but not so sure about the cats. His foster family can be contacted at 773-278-4339, Lisa and Mike.

NOTE: In order to help no kill shelters help your four-legged friend get rehomed, please plan (several months) ahead if you are moving to a place that does not accept companion animals.
Who We Are
Lake Shore Animal Shelter, Chicago's pioneer no-kill shelter, is a 501(c)3 non-profit animal welfare organization, serving Chicago since 1966 . Mission: LSAS works to reduce the needless killing of pets through adoption programs, spay/neuter promotion, and public education efforts.
LSAS is an all-volunteer organization with no paid staff; donations go to direct care, welfare, and promotion of the animals. Dedicated volunteers collectively donate more than 80 hours per week to help keep Lake Shore's mission a success. The Board's executive committee has more than 24 years in the field, and works hard to ensure your donations are spent wisely. Our most recent tax filing shows that a little more than 91% of all donations go to the direct care and adoption of animals!
Your donations are key to our success. We receive no state or federal funding. LSAS gives priority to pets who must be given up by their families due to illness, death, disability, financial or other difficulties. These animals are pets with a history and are ready to be your best friend for life. They appreciate whatever help you can provide. We do take in a limited percentage of animals in real peril--those on the street, and those confiscated by the police to save them from harm. All our animals are temperment tested, vetted, and are given basic training where needed before being considered adoptable.
Adopting a Friend
Donations for adoption can be as low as $75, but more often begin at $100 and go up from there depending on the dog. You must be at least 21 years of age, have a photo ID and, if renting or in a condo, bring a copy of the section of your declaration or lease that states dogs or cats are allowed. Cat adoption fees include: FIV/FeLe testing, shots, spay/neuter (what a deal!). Dogs include: shots, microchip, rabies, heartworm testing, and spay/neuter. Intake donations vary depending on circumstances, although generally we ask for $100.
Volunteering and Donations
LSAS is always interested in making new friends who have an animal's best interest at heart. If you are at least 21 years of age and are a responsible person with animal handling experience, some of the opportunities to learn include animal socialization, adoption counselor trainee work, dog walking, special event work, holiday bookwraps, poster program administration, etc. If you have a special skill (artist, publicist, writer, webmaster, desktop publishing, dog trainer/walker) or product you would like to donate to benefit the animals, please call our voicemail, 312.409.1162, and ask for Mary. We really appreciate your help!
If you can't spare time, we have a Sponsor's Program. Your participation helps provide shelter, food, and medical care for the many pets who, through no fault of their own, find themselves abandoned. This program is also a lifeline for pets who come to us in need of training before they can be deemed adoptable. See our website: www.lakeshoreanimalshelter.org or call Mary or Elizabeth at the petline voicemail 312 409 1162, and your call will be returned asap.
