We are a NO-KILL Facility and Sanctuary
We believe every animal has a right to life. We do not discriminate against breed, disposition, color, temperament, age. We take in abused, abandoned, mistreated, unwanted animals that need a loving home, and we rehabilitate them and show them love and affection so they can bless some family with a wonderful pet. We screen potential adopters so that we know the animal we place will be given a wonderful home for life. We are a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization, and we depend on people like you to donate their time and money to help these animals. We save horses, dogs, cats, and other animals.
WHO WE ARE
What is Central Illinois Small Animal Rescue?
Central Illinois Small Animal Rescue (CISAR) is an organization that helps unwanted, abused, or abandoned animals. We have about 6 acres of land just east of Bloomington that can house and care for a large number of animals. We take in stray animals, owner-surrendered animals, and any other animals that need a safe place to stay. All animals are given proper veterinary care, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and tested and treated for parasites and in overall good health. Animals are bathed, groomed, and otherwise cleaned up and their temperaments evaluated. Then we carefully match our animals with an adoptive home.
What Kinds of Animals Do We Help?
CISAR started out intending to take in small domestic animals. However, we soon found a huge need to help all animals. We do our very best to accommodate any animal in need.
The first step in adopting a homeless animal is to fill out an application. You can call and have us mail you one, or you may find one on our website. In the application, we ask that you tell us about yourself and your preferences. Our goal is to carefully match each animal with each adoptive family. We do NOT do impulse adoptions, and we DO screen each adoptive home. We need to be sure that each adoption will be a successful one. Once you meet an animal that you think is right for your family, we will have you read and sign an Adoption Contract. There are lots of important points in this contract, so be sure and ask lots of questions if you don't understand. (We have pretty high standards for our animals!) And we do enforce EVERYTHING in the contract. Please understand that as you work through the adoption process that our number one goal is the welfare and happiness of THE ANIMAL.
There is a fee to adopt an animal; however, you are always free to donate more than the stated amount. It is very expensive for us to feed, house, and care for all the animals that we do. We are not funded in any way other than your adoption fees and public donations. Many of the animals we help have very large medical bills. Central Illinois Small Animal Rescue is a non-profit organization, and therefore donations are tax deductible.
A Member of the Family
Domestic animals want to be part of the family, and that means living where the family lives...which is in the house. A domestic animal left outside will be lonely and often develop behavior and discipline problems. CISAR will only consider applications where the adopters intend to have an indoor family pet...and make the animal a part of the family.
How can I help Central Illinois Small Animal Rescue?
Many opportunities are available if you have an interest in helping Central Illinois Small Animal Rescue. Financial donations are always appreciated. We also need donations for food, blankets, cages, etc. However, there are many other ways you can help. You can help by volunteering in cleaning the cat room, dog kennels, and horse stalls. You can also help with training, transportation, socializing, phone work, and the list goes on. Please contact us at 309 287-3608 or 309-724-8241 and leave a message if you are interested.
What would they say?
1. My life is likely to last 10-15 years. Any separation from you will be very painful.
2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.
3. Place your trust in me; it is crucial for my well-being.
4. Don't be angry with me for long, and don't lock me up as punishment. I have only you.
5. Talk to me, even if I don't understand your voice when it's speaking to me.
6. Be aware that however you treat me, I'll never forget.
7. Before you hit me, remember that I have teeth that could easily crush the bones in your hand, but I choose not to bite.
8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, I've been out in the sun too long, or my heart might be getting old and weak.
9. Take care of me when I grow old. You too, will grow old.
10. Go with me on difficult journeys. Never say, I can't bear to watch it or Let it happen in my absence. Everything is easier for me if you are there.
