The Eskie Connection
What we do...
The Eskie Connection is designed to be a source of information for all aspects of dog ownership. For those of you who currently own an eskie that is an active, happy member of your family, I have organized various activities you and your companion can enjoy together. Or, if you are looking to add an American Eskimo Dog to your family, I can provide you with a list of eskies up for adoption in the area. If you are looking for eskie-approved pet sitters, trainers, vets & groomers, I can make a recommendation. And for those of you who unfortunately need to give up your eskie for whatever reason, you can contact me to discuss the situation and I will do my best to help.
A Little About Eskies...
Eskies are not a breed for everyone. They are high energy, busy dogs and without proper socialization and training can develop behavior problems. They are loyal, committed to their families and wary of strangers, making them good watchdogs. They would be miserable if not included as part of the family and therefore cannot be kept as outside dogs. They require routine grooming and brushing at least biweekly. Like all longhaired dogs they SHED. Eskies are smart and easily trained using positive methods. They will happily do tricks; in fact, at one time they were star performers of the Barnum Bailey Circus. They are great agility dogs but very poor couch potatoes. An Eskie without a job will find one and usually their owners will not like it! Eskie owners report their biggest problems are barking and being over protective. With work and training, these behaviors can be modified.
Eskies are long lived with an average life span of 15 years. They have very few health problems. If an Eskie is your kind of dog, you will have a lifelong friend who loves you no matter what.
