Our Pet List

HAHS horses come and go at a fairly rapid rate. Sometimes we have as many as 45 horses on site, sometimes we (luckily) make so many adoptions that we get down to around 20. Please go to www.hahs.org to see all of our horses and their stories and availability.

News

HAHS invites horse lovers and owners to attend our annual Farm Fests held in September at the HAHS rehabilitation farm. Recently we have been including a fun horse show for casual competition and entertainment. You can expect drafts pulling a wagon to transport guests around the farm, pony rides for children, and special appearances by famous horses. We also draw names for our annual cash prize raffle. Admission is $7 for adults - chilldren 10 and under are free. Contact info@hahs.org or 815-337-5563 for more information.

Who We Are

HAHS is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in 1971 to promote the humane treatment of hooved animals through education, legislation, investigation and intervention (impoundment). In addition, we provide physical and mental rehabilitation to abused and neglected horses and adopt them to compassionate homes.

Adopting a friend

The first step if you want to adopt an animal from us is read through our adoption criteria at www.hahs.org/adoption. If you meet these preliminary guidelines, the next step is to print out or send online an adoption application from our website. Once we have received your application, we'll contact you and set up an appointment for one of our reprsentatives to come out for a friendly visit/inspection at your place. Hopefully they'll submit a glowing report and we'll be able to let you know you've been approved. Then it's time for you to come out to the HAHS farm, get to know the animal of your choice, pay the adoption fee, which starts at $500 and can go up to $750, and arrange for transportation.
