Anderson Animal Shelter

Our Pet List

Our Featured Pets...Donatello the cat and Candy the dog!

Donatello was found in a sewer drain, so we named him after a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle! He is a sweet boy who would prefer a home where he doesn't have access to drains...! Donatello is a lap cat and loves to be petted and played with. He is a member of the 9 Lives Club where we try to match up senior people with senior people. If you are 65 or older Donatello's adoption fee is waived, and if you are 64 or younger, then it's $50.

Candy is a cute, calm, and smart senior lady who is looking for a loving home where she can spend her golden years. She already knows the “sit” and “down” command and is happy to retrieve a toy for you too! Candy is currently living in a foster home with other dogs and cats and doing splendid. She is housebroken and the foster home reports that she can be trusted out of a crate when they are not home (except the garbage can will need to hidden:). She loves to play with squeaky toys and to hang out with doggy buddies. If you’re looking for a loyal and loving dog that has enough energy to play and have lots of fun but also knows when it is time to mellow and relax, then Candy is the dog for you.

WE NEED YOU!

Who We Are

Incorporated in 1966, Anderson Animal Shelter has provided temporary housing for approximately 3,400 dogs, cats, birds, gerbils, hamsters, ferrets, rabbits and other homeless or abandoned pets. We are committed to a low-kill philosophy (100% adoption of adoptable animals) and so do not place time limits on any of the animals in our care. In 2001, an on-site veterinary clinic was added to provide health care for Shelter animals and to assist in the goal of spaying/neutering all adopted dogs & cats before they leave the Shelter.

Adopting a friend

Hours: Mon: 2 - 8pm, Tues: 12-6pm, Wed: Closed, Thurs: 2-8pm, Friday: 12-6pm, Saturday and Sunday: 11am - 4pm. The shelter stops adoptions and showings a half hour before closing each day. Adoption Fees: Dogs $200.00, Puppies $350.00 and Cats $155.00. This covers spay/neuter, microchip, free vet office visit from participating area veterinarians, vaccinations, ID tag, collar and leash (dogs) or carrying case (cats). The puppy adoption fee includes a 6 week training class and a $50 rebate upon completion of that one or proof of another training class. Renters: we need to see proof that your landlord allows pets. Feel free to bring in your lease with you to the shelter. If you are interested in adopting a dog and you already have a dog(s), we require you to bring your dog(s) to the Shelter so that we can be sure they get along. We generally do not adopt kittens under 6 months to families with children under 6 years of age. Kittens can be very fragile and very young children, while they may have all the best intentions, can be rough with kittens.
