Our Pet List

Our Featured Pets...Beau the dog and Meow the cat!

Need a Beau? Beau will promise he will be an utmost gentleman. OK, maybe not always but he means well! Beau is a 2 year old Akita mix who is just a darling. He still has a lot of “puppy” in him and needs some training but he has proven to be a very charming dog. Beau would love a home where he can get tons of love, attention and playtime. He does like some dogs as long as they let him be in charge. Beau is a great dog looking for a great guardian! Is it you? Click on Beau's picture above to see a video of all the tricks he can do!

Meow is a large, handsome boy who would prefer to be the only cat in his home, but he loves people. And is aptly named because he is a talker! Meow keeps himself nicely groomed and can't get enough attention from people. He loves looking out the window at the birds outside. Click on Meow's picture above to see how friendly and wonderful he is!

WE NEED YOU!

Who We Are

Incorporated in 1966, Anderson Animal Shelter has provided temporary housing for approximately 3,400 dogs, cats, birds, gerbils, hamsters, ferrets, rabbits and other homeless or abandoned pets. We are committed to a low-kill philosophy (100% adoption of adoptable animals) and so do not place time limits on any of the animals in our care. In 2001, an on-site veterinary clinic was added to provide health care for Shelter animals and to assist in the goal of spaying/neutering all adopted dogs & cats before they leave the Shelter.

Adopting a friend

Hours: Mon: 2 - 8pm, Tues: 12-6pm, Wed: Closed, Thurs: 2-8pm, Friday: 12-6pm, Saturday and Sunday: 11am - 4pm. The shelter stops adoptions and showings a half hour before closing each day. Adoption Fees: Dogs $200.00, Puppies $300.00 and Cats $155.00. This covers spay/neuter, AVID microchip, free vet exam from participating area veterinarians, vaccinations, ID tag, collar and leash (dogs) or carrying case (cats). There is an additional $70.00 fee for dogs that require mandatory obedience. Training is held here at the shelter. We require obedience training for all puppies under 6 months of age. Renters: we need to see proof that your landlord allows pets. Feel free to bring in your lease with you to the shelter. If you are interested in adopting a dog and you already have a dog(s), we require you to bring your dog(s) to the Shelter so that we can be sure they get along. We generally do not adopt kittens under 6 months to families with children under 5 years of age. Kittens can be very fragile and very young children, while they may have all the best intentions, can be rough with kittens.
