OUR MISSON CONTINUES WITH YOUR HELP!!

We cannot express enough thanks to the community and our supporters and donors! In 2005, Homeward Bound was rescued from closing through the intervention of Macon Resources who visualized the shelter as more than a safe haven for unwanted cats and dogs. The shelter became an opportunity for adults who were largely unwanted by the employment market in our community. People embraced the tasks of these jobs because they were committed to the mission of saving animals and finding them new and loving homes. There are countless success stories of both the animals and people who are Homeward Bound Pet Shelter. Animals who were formally unwanted now serve as police dogs, companions for the elderly, or as the center point for a healthy and happy family. People without direction or skills became wage earners, contributors, and workers in our community. This marriage of people and animal services has become the only one of its kind in the United States and serves as an innovative beacon for the Decatur and Macon County community. The positive outcomes are 400 dogs and cats were placed last year in permanent homes and saved from euthanasia and over 15 community based jobs for the people of Macon County. This endeavor relies solely on fundraising efforts. In 2013, our Summer Fund Drive's goal is to raise $50,000. We especially thank all our friends who donate annually and volunteer their time at the shelter. We need more friends in order to continue our mission. To donate in person, stop by 1720 E. Huston Drive, Decatur; by mail at PO Box 3831, Decatur, IL 62524; by phone at 217-876-1266; or online at: www.homewardboundpetshelter.com

WHO WE ARE

The mission of Homeward Bound Pet Shelter is to shelter and rehabilitate relinquished cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies until they can be permanently adopted into loving homes. Homeward Bound has operated as a no-kill, not-for profit organization since April 2002.

On July 1, 2005, Homeward Bound became a division of Macon Resources, Inc. Macon Resources, Inc. is a not for profit agency that provides services to promote the growth, independence, and self-worth of children and adults with disabilities. This unique social partnership is benefiting both organizations as well as the Decatur community.

Last year, Homeward Bound Pet Shelter successfully placed over 400 pets in loving homes! Not only do we provide shelter and care for many homeless animals in the Decatur and Macon County area, we rescue animals from several other humane societies and animal control facilities throughout central and southern Illinois. Plus, HBPS is a job training program for people with disabilities!

Homeward Bound continues to face financial challenges. Without the generous support of our amazing donors, wonderful veterinarians and their dedicated staff, and our tireless volunteers, we would not be able to continue our mission. Thank you for your support!

OUR PETS

All of our cats are kept in apartment-like setups; they are free to roam and not in cages. Our dogs enjoy spending time during warm days in our large outdoor play yards. All animals are spay/neutered, up-to-date on all vaccines, and micro chipped. They have been tested for heartworm and feline leukemia/FIV and kept on monthly flea control and heartworm prevention.

Our adoption follow-up program offers assistance and advice to help owners ensure their pet adjusts to their new home.

Senior pets (8 years or older) tend to be more mellow and patient. These older pets make wonderful adoption options for those who want companionship without the time or ability to train a young animal.
