WHO WE ARE

The mission of Homeward Bound Pet Shelter is to shelter and rehabilitate relinquished cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies until they can be permanently adopted into loving homes. Homeward Bound has operated as a no-kill, not-for profit organization since April 2002.

On July 1, 2005, Homeward Bound became a division of Macon Resources, Inc. Macon Resources, Inc. is a not for profit agency that provides comprehensive services and supports which promote growth, independence, and self-worth for children and adults with disabilities and their families. This unique social partnership is benefiting both organizations as well as the Decatur community.

Homeward Bound Pet Shelter successfully places over 350 pets each year in loving homes! Not only do we provide shelter and care for many homeless animals in the Decatur and Macon County area, we rescue animals from several other humane societies and animal control facilities throughout central and southern Illinois.

Homeward Bound continues to face financial challenges. Without the generous support of our amazing donors, wonderful veterinarians and their dedicated staff, and our tireless volunteers, we would not be able to continue our mission. Thank you for your support!

OUR PETS

All of our cats are kept in apartment-like setups; they are free to roam and not in cages. Our dogs enjoy spending time during warm days in our large outdoor play yards. All animals are spay/neutered, up-to-date on all vaccines, and micro chipped. They have been tested for heartworm and feline leukemia/FIV and kept on monthly flea control and heartworm prevention.

Our adoption follow-up program offers assistance and advice to help owners ensure their pet adjusts to their new home.

Senior pets (8 years or older) tend to be more mellow and patient. These older pets make wonderful adoption options for those who want companionship without the time or ability to train a young animal.
