About Us

News

On October 2nd, a school bus crashed through the front of Wright-Way Rescue in Niles, Illinois. Fortunately, no one was on the school bus and all volunteers and pets were safe. But, the building is not savable. After 10 years of placing over 15,000 pets in homes, we ourselves are now homeless.

We were renting our 7,000 sq. foot facility at the time of the crash, and in order to immediately continue our mission of saving lives, we will need to find a new facility. Each week, until the end of the year, we had approximately 75 adoptable animals scheduled to arrive at our Chicago Adoption Center from our Admissions and Care Center which is 6 hours away. Each week that we are homeless, we are unable to remove 75 dogs and cats from euthanasia lists in the Midwest.

We have received tremendous support from our neighborhood, and Wright-Way is so thankful. We have a long road ahead. In order for us to purchase and equip our own Adoption Center, we need to raise $1.5 Million.

Adopting A Friend

Adoption Process

  • APPLY — Fill out an adoption application on our website, wright-wayrescue.org. This application is good for 90 days.
  • RESERVE — Do you see an animal you'd like to adopt? Wright-Way Rescue is unique to many shelters because of it’s ability to hold pets for pre-approved adopters who make arrangements to meet them. Approved applicants who are seriously interested in a particular animal may place them on reserve to meet once they become ready for adoption. There is NO FEE to place a reservation. We do however ask that the potential adopter is serious about meeting this particular pet. If we hold a pet and the person does not show up, that pet may have missed it’s chance to find a family during the time it was on reserve.  If you see a specific pet on our website you believe to be seriously interested in meeting and adopting, please call our office to set an appointment (773) 353-9931. Please remember that we take only one reservation per pet. Please only set up an appointment if you know you can attend your time, are seriously interested in the pet you are asking us to hold, and please ensure you are ready to add a pet to your home.
  • ATTEND AN ADOPTION EVENT — Wright-Way Rescue hold Adoption Events every weekend. If you would like to see all the animals up for adoption and don't feel you are ready to make a reservation, please attend one of these events. You can stay up to date on adoption events at www.wrightwayrescue.org. ** Please note, due to the bus crash, we are temporarily homeless and do not have a permanent location to hold adoptions. We will continue to offer adoptions, but not at the Wright-Way Adoption Center. Please see updated information on our website. Adoption Center hours will return to normal once we find a new permanent location **

Who We Are

Wright-Way Rescue officially started in 2003 in response to the overwhelming number of adoptable animals being euthanized in rural animal control facilities. We ease the burden of these animal control establishments by visiting their facilities and pulling adoptable dogs and cats that are at risk of being put to sleep. These animals are then readied for adoption at our facility in southern Illinois and later transported to our Adoption Center in northern Illinois. The idea of moving animals from rural populations to urban ones is not a new concept. However our Admissions & Care Center provides a unique opportunity for animals to be prepared for adoption before ever arriving at our Adoption Center. To our knowledge, this is the first program of its kind in the Midwest. In 2004, we provided 800 dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens with shelter, spay/neuter surgeries, and adoptive homes. We have grown to provide a second chance at life to approximately 4,000 animals yearly through our busy adoption program. The headquarters of Wright-Way Rescue is located in Murphysboro, IL. Our adoption center is currently located in Des Plaines, IL, which is a bordering suburb of Northwest Chicago.

Wright-Way Rescue employees & volunteers, partners in our success, make our mission statement come alive in the way they work with every animal and adopter. Our adopters and supporters have responded tremendously. When we began our operation, we employed two individuals and rented an office building/warehouse combination in Crab Orchard, IL. We now employee approximately 15 employees ranging from veterinary technicians, groomers, animal care providers, trainers, and office staff. Our 3.5-acre facility that was purchased in 2006 has been renovated to provide state-of-the-art sheltering for animals awaiting homes. We have also added our Adoption Center in Niles, IL. To say we have grown by leaps and bounds would be an understatement. The support of our adopters, animal welfare foundations, and other supporters such as the Petco Foundation has enabled Wright-Way Rescue to extend our operation and grow to be who we are today. With the entire staff and volunteers of Wright-Way Rescue participating in making our vision of distinctive quality and unparalleled service real, we are headed for even greater achievements. This, simply put, equals more adoptive homes for our pets and a step towards helping the overwhelming number of homeless animals in shelters today.
