Who We Are
Australian Shepherd Rescue and Placement Helpline, Inc (ARPH) is a not for profit adoption referral organization dedicated to placing Australian Shepherds that have been abandoned, neglected, or whose present home cannot or will not keep them any longer, into caring loving and permanent homes.
We are also dedicated to helping Aussie owners find ways to keep their Aussies, rather than give them up.
ARPH is the official rescue organization for the Australian Shepherd Club of America (ASCA).
We have over 400 volunteers throughout the US and Canada. Our volunteers receive no compensation for their dedicated efforts, except for the deep personal satisfaction of a successful adoption.
Adopting a friend
Adopters must complete an adoption application which can be found at our primary web site: www.aussierescue.org Potential adopters undergo an extensive screening process.
There is an adoption fee of $200, unless stated otherwise. Our Aussies are spayed/neutered prior to adoption (in almost all cases). They are also current on vaccines. In addition, many of our foster dogs have had basic obedience training and are house-trained and or crate-trained.
Occasionally, puppies end up in rescue, but most of the Aussies are 6 months and up. There are many advantages to adopting an adult dog, one of which is that it's personality and temperament are more likely to be known.
Australian Shepherds end up in rescue for many reasons, including:
* too energetic
* not good with children
* their owners had a new baby
* their owners don't have time
* allergies in the family
* family moves
* owner's illness or death
* too protective.
Our Aussies have gone onto lead happy lives as loving companions. They are also found doing therapy work, obedience, agility, tracking and flyball.
