For years, the routine killing of healthy dogs and cats just because they are homeless has been an accepted practice. As the no-kill philosophy emerges in America, it is time for the world's wealthiest nation to bring an end to this practice.
Animal lovers have long dreamed of the day when there will be no more homeless pets. Located in the Central Illinois town of Pekin and founded in 1958, TAPS is committed to providing a safe environment for homeless pets until they can be placed into permanent, loving homes. We take in and rehabilitate, sick and injured pets that have nowhere else to go, and we provide education to pet owners to ensure happier, healthier lives for companion animals.
Volunteers and Donation
TAPS is always looking for dedicated volunteers. Positions are available for assistance with working directly with shelter animals, off-site adoptions, fundraising, and any other aspect of shelter care. We need volunteers to work with animals, with the public, and with behind the scenes projects. Please contact us if you are interested in volunteering.
TAPS is a 501(c) non-profit organization that receives no funding from the state or government. We rely on public donations, bequests, and fundraising to continue operations. We are always in need of dog and cat food, cat litter, office supplies, and monetary donations. Donations can be made on line and TAPS does accept credit cards.
All animals adopted from TAPS have been spayed/neutered, are up to date on vaccinations, wormed, treated for fleas and earmites, microchipped, and either heartworm tested or tested for Feline Leukemia/FIV. We have an adoption fee that helps us to cover these expenses. If interested in adopting a TAPS animal, you will need to fill out an adoption application and be approved for adoption.
