The Animal Protective League (APL) of Springfield and Sangamon County
is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to caring for stray and injured animals, and to coordinating adoptions of homeless animals by responsible pet owners.
It also works to educate people about the humane care of and respect for animals, and operates a low-cost spay/neuter program.
APL is a no-kill shelter. APL is funded solely by donations. It exists because of the love and dedication of people who care about innocent animals who cannot help themselves.

BRINGING YOUR DOG
It's getting hot outside again, which means the temperature in your car is even hotter. If you plan on bringing your own dog to the shelter to meet a potential buddy, please either ask a shelter staff member for help before arriving (or immediately after arriving) or bring someone to hold your dog outside while everything gets set for the big "meet and greet" - usually done in the play yard.
-----------------------------
VOLUNTEERING
APL is open to volunteers every day of the year from 8:30am to 5pm.

Thanks to everyone who attended the Paws in the Park walk-a-thon on July 26th in Washington Park.

The winner of the tallest dog contest was Finnegan. A very friendly, laid-back Irish Wolfhound... he weighs 232 pounds!
