OUR FEATURED PET

COPPER

Please click on the photo above for more information!

Hi, my name is Copper. I am a smaller red and white boy, about 4 years old. I was pulled from a shelter in North Idaho on my last day. I am very good with adults and children over 10, but would do best as an only pet. I have a sweet and playful disposition, and like attention. I am housebroken, and know the commands sit, down, paw, bow, and walk nice on a leash. I love love love to go for rides in the car, to the point where I sometimes try to get into other people's cars on walks! I do ride very nicely, though, so you might just like to take me along. I also like toys and will play with them by myself, running hither and yon flinging them in the air, but can also fetch them for you. (Check out my video!) I am current on inoculations, micro chipped, and neutered. I have even lost some weight since my first photos were taken. My only quirk is that I do not like to be bathed. I am so ready for a new home, please contact MMR and arrange to meet me!

NEWS

See pictures and video and read about the Adoption Event we participated in on May 19th.

MMR is growing, and needs foster homes and volunteers to help care for our charges, so if you would like to help with our efforts, please let us know. Also be aware that in addition to the always welcome cash donation, we are very pleased to accept donations of large dog equipment to help house our charges, and are happy to accept other items of value that can be raffled or auctioned to benefit our rescue efforts.

Donate a BedThe concrete pavers in our kennels can be hard on doggie elbows and knees, but are necessary for security and cleanliness. MMR chose Kuranda dog beds because they are so durable and good for our dogs. We still need *2* beds so we will have enough for all of our kennels. If you would like to donate a bed so another dog can lounge in comfort, please click here.

Have you ever considered the terrible circumstance you may be placed in if your beloved pet were to become very sick or seriously injured and you couldn't afford it's care? ShelterCare Insurance is an inexpensive way to protect you both, and you can sign up by clicking on the purple ShelterCare box below. Using this link will also help MMR, because if you sign up from this web page, ShelterCare will donate $25 to MMR to help provide supplies and food for our rescued Malamutes. All of your pets are elible for this insurance, this service is not limited to MMR adopted pets, so sign up today and protect those furbabies!

If you are interested in fostering for MMR, do contact us and we will walk you through the foster home application process. Be prepared, though, as we have some very stringent rules, but that is because we know our breed very well, and know what they require to keep them happy and contained, so please try to be patient with our fussiness. While our dogs are in foster care we continue to provide for their expenses, you just provide the structured, loving environment that they need to thrive.

WHO WE ARE

MMR is not a shelter or humane society. We are a non-profit organization of volunteers dedicated to assisting Alaskan Malamutes and their owners when in crisis throughout the Intermountain West. We are an affiliate of the Alaskan Malamute Assistance League, the national rescue organization recognized by the Alaskan Malamute Club of America. As an affiliate, MMR operates under AMAL's code of ethics .

We offer educational material about the Alaskan Malamute breed, can assist in resolving containment issues, are able to help an owner with appropriately re-homing their Malamute when necessary, and provide behavioral issues support in the form of referrals to trainers and other more experienced Malamute owners. We also raise funds which can be made available to help Malamute owners keep their dogs during short term crises such as a job loss or medical emergencies. These funds are also used to help care for Malamutes with adoptable personalities who have been pulled from shelters, or who have been seized by authorities after having been abandoned, neglected, or abused.

Right now we have a very limited number of safe houses (foster homes) available to such Malamutes, but we hope to soon have as many as 20 of these homes at the ready throughout Idaho, Nevada, Montana, Utah and Wyoming. These safe houses provide orphaned Malamutes with socialization, training, and monitoring of any medical conditions that may need to be addressed before they can be adopted out to a forever home. It is our hope that volunteers and successful adopters will want to assist in any or all of these activities to the level they feel able, but we are also happy to just have you drop us a line from time to time to tell us how you and your Mallies are doing.

ADOPTING A FRIEND

Some of our adult Malamutes cannot be adopted out to families with children under the age of 10 for a variety of reasons. The Mals that can be around younger children will have a note in their listing that specifically states the age of the children that they have successfully interacted with for an extended period of time. Please understand that this is not only for the safety of your children, but also for the safety of the dog. A large, strong, stubborn breed like the Malamute may not be the best choice for your family, no matter how beautiful they are.

We do require an APPLICATION, references, and a homecheck, as well as a contract and post adoption visit. We do check the references you provide, so please make sure the information you give us is accurate, or we may choose to deny your application based on the fact that we were provided with misleading information. All MMR Malamutes are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations, and micro chipped. Any health or behavioral issues will be noted in writing as well. A fee for each of our Malamutes is required to offset the expenses involved with making sure the dog you take home is a healthy one. Without assessing a fee we would not be able to afford to continue rescuing this glorious but sometimes difficult breed, so we appreciate your understanding in this matter. We typically charge $150 for our Malamutes, but do have a reduced fee of $100 for senior Mals (ages 8+) and $125 for the occasional Mal-a-nuff.

We ALWAYS take our dogs back at any time in their lives, so if your circumstances change and you must give up the dog, please call us immediately so we can make new arrangements for the Malamute. However, do be aware that we are only able to refund your fee within the first 30 days of the adoption. If you or anyone living with you has a history or record of violence of any kind, or has been involved in the abuse or neglect of an animal in any form, you will not be considered as an adoptive or foster home, so please do not waste our time and yours by applying.

COME VISIT US!

Because we operate the rescue out of our home, please do call and make an appointment to visit us. We just know you will want to take a Mally home with you!! If you can't adopt or foster and just want to help (perhaps with transportation or homechecks), do consider joining our Yahoo E-List which is our online tool for rescue coordination efforts:
