We had a great year in 2009, over 425 animals found forever homes and we were able to assist with 985 spay/neuters thanks to our generous supporters. Our listings on Petfinder have been a great help and funding from North Wind and the Voigt Foundation made many more spay/neuters possible. We began a program in late 2009 to provide pet food assistance to low income seniors and families in danger of giving up their pets due to the economy and the community has supported this program in a big way. We are currently providing spay/neuter assistance to low income families, seniors and feral cat caretakers.
The Humane Society of the Upper Valley is the only humane agency that works to help animals located in the entire Upper Snake River Valley area . We have four main goals. -The first is to offer spay and neuter assistance to low income families in order to try and stem the constant flow of puppies and kittens. -Secondly, we offer pet adoption services helping to place animals that are being surrendered by their families or that are abandoned or strays. Working through various breed rescues, we often place dogs out of our area. We have placed animals in 14 states and many in Canada. -We work closely with law enforcement on cruelty and neglect complaints. -Lastly, we have a 24-hour message service which is answered daily, offering help to people with their pet-related problems. 208-681-HSUV (4788)
The Humane Society of the Upper Valley tries to place our pets in "forever" homes but should the need arise, we ALWAYS take our pets back and therefore do not expect that they should be given away or discarded at the local pound. We do charge an adoption fee depending upon the pet to help defray some of our spay/neuter, vaccination, and other medical costs. We do not have a shelter...we are all volunteers and work from our homes located up and down the Snake River Valley from St. Anthony to the Idaho/Utah border. Animals are shown for adoption at Petco in Idaho Falls from 11-4 on Saturdays or by appointment at the foster homes.
We have a feral cat program in which we provide instruction, veterinary coordination, equipment and financial support to property owners to trap/spay/neuter/vax feral cats residing on or near their property. If you accept FCP assistance, you must commit to providing adequate shelter, cat food and water year round. Healthy, well fed cats tend to be enthusiastic mousers. They mouse for sport. For a feral cat to continue residing on its chosen home property is the ideal scenario for its survival. However, we try to maintain a list of qualifying rural homes willing to accept unwanted spayed/neutered/vax feral cats. When these homes are available, and it is reasonable to do so, we assist with the relocation of unwanted feral cats or otherwise unadoptable stray cats. This humane FCP is completely reliant on an annual garage sale and individual cash donations from the public. Your tax deductible support is greatly appreciated.
