In addition to temporary housing for homeless pets, the Benewah County Humane Society has a Pets Line to match lost and found pets with owners, investigates animal cruelty reports, and helps to educate the community on animal care and the pet overpopulation problem.
Hope's Haven, the Benewah County Humane Society is the only animal welfare provider in the County. The area that we cover is approximately 500 square miles. At this time we receive no funding from state or local goverments. We are run by dedicated staff and volunteers who spend much of their own time and money caring for homeless pets. We are funded solely by grants, donations and fundraisers. Our mission is to spay/neuter all animals, find homes for needy animals and educate the public on pet care and spay/neuter programs. Millions of animals are needlessly euthanised every year and we would like to lower these terribly large numbers. We are a No-Kill Shelter with a full house and a waiting list for incoming pets. In 2007 we adopted out 239 animals, spay/neutered over 369 animals, and logged over 15,000 volunteer hours. Some of our volunteers foster animals in their own homes when we are too full to take any more animals.
Our non-profit corporation is housed in Hope's Haven Animal Shelter, in a tiny Northern Idaho town called Saint Maries. Our business hours are Monday through Friday, 12pm till 4pm (PT).
