Adopting A Friend

Lilo was abandoned by her first owners. Lilo is about a year and half old. She was with us for awhile then went to the vet college to get spayed and current vaccinations and healthy. Her coat was bad. She is very affectionate and just a doll. She deserves a good forever home.

Who We Are

According to the dictionary SOLACE means "that which furnishes comfort or consolation." The Council Bluffs Animal Shelter volunteer group is called SOLAS (Support Our Local Animal Shelter), and although it is spelled differently, it means essentially the same as solace. SOLAS was started in 1993 by Mike and Mary Jones and a small, but hardworking group of volunteers. The purpose of the group is to assist in the care and placement of the animals at the Council Bluffs Animal Shelter. SOLAS is a 501(c)3 Not for Profit organization. SOLAS tries to provide financial assistance to the animals at the shelter. The members have several fund raising activities each year including craft fairs, selling candy bars, and Santa Paws pictures. The money raised is then used for such things as dry mats for the kennels, a bathtub for use at the shelter, a washer and dryer, dog and cat treats, stainless steel bowls and litter pans, cat cages for foster care, and medicine treatment for sick or injured animals. The money is also used to strongly promote spaying and neutering, since most of the animals at the shelter are the result of indiscriminate and irresponsible breeding. SOLAS has many different areas in which to volunteer. Some of these include assisting at the shelter, foster care, publicity, or fundraising. Meetings are generally held the third Tuesday of each month with special activities scheduled as needed or required.
