Our Mission

The focus of SNAP of Chickasaw County as it begins, is one of helping animals in crisis situations. This includes animals in abuse and neglect situations, as well as strays or animals dumped. We work in collaboration with the city and county law enforcement to ensure the proper care and treatment of animals. There is a serious concern for the health and well being of animals this winter with the economic difficulties that are occurring.
We are going to have to be very prepared for these crisis situations, as the forecast looks bleak. Most importantly, we must focus on education of the community. This includes responsible pet ownership through spaying and neutering, as well as the care of the animals. The final focus is on spaying and neutering, as all towns within Chickasaw County report a high incidence of stray cats. This is not healthy for the animals or the communities.

Who We Are

We are a group of volunteers dedicated to helping animals in Chickasaw County. We are dedicated to educating pet owners on responsible pet ownership which leads to healthy animals. Our long-term goal is to develop into a humane shelter for the county. SNAP partners with the Cedar Bend Humane Society. Please visit their website on petfinder.com for adoptable animals. They are located at 1166 West Airline Highway, Waterloo, Iowa. Reach them by phone: (319) 232-6887.

Adopting a friend

If you would like to adopt one of our pets, please email and I will send an application. We are devoted to the animals in our care and do all we can to make sure they are placed in good homes. We require all prospective adoptions to be subject to application and interviewing before adoption approval.

Come Visit Us!

We are not a shelter. All of our animals are in foster homes so please email and we can speak with you about the application process and setting up a time to meet the animal you are interested in.

We are in need of donations (big or small) to cover the physical and medical care of our animals. If you would like to help, any amount (big or small) would be appreciated.
