Annabelle
Titan
Annabelle is an awesome 56 pound Pitbull Terrier. Annabelle absolutely loves people and attention, you'll never find her without her tail wagging and her body wiggling! Annabelle will make a wonderful addition to some very lucky family! Titan is a wonderfully outgoing black and white Labrador mix who amazingly came in as a stray - a stray with a collar with the name "Titan" written on it and a stray that's already neutered! Titan is very outgoing and knows how to sit and also for some reason after he sits he will then get up and do a 360 or stand on his hind legs and pirouette!! The shelter requires Titan go to a home with no children under the age of 12. To learn more about Annabelle or Titan please contact adoptions.

The Humane Society of Scott County is a non-profit organization founded in 1902. The purpose of this organization is to provide humane care for all the lost, abandoned and unwanted companion animals in Scott County and to adopt these animals into caring, responsible homes. The shelter is funded entirely by donations and a fee is charged to the city and county for the care of the animals. The policies for the shelter are regulated by the Board of Directors and implemented by the Executive Director, Ms. Pam Arndt, and the shelter staff.
WHO WE ARE
ADOPTING A FRIEND
Finding good homes for the unwanted animals of Scott County is of paramount concern to us. All potential adopters are carefully interviewed and screened during the adoption process.
We reserve the right to refuse any adoption. Selecting a lifelong animal companion is a very personal choice. Animals may NOT be adopted as gifts. Humane Society gift certificates are available to allow the receipient to choose their special companion in person.
Golden Companions Program Senior citizens, 60 years and older who wish to adopt a pet from the Humane Society may do so at no initial cost. The pet must be one year or older to qualify. The program pays for the heartworm test (dogs), fecal test, spay/neuter, rabies vaccination and Feleuk test(cats).
Adoption Policies Adoption fees are as follows: Dogs $75 Cats $60 Rabbits $50
These fees cover the cost of spay/neuter, which is required by Iowa state law. Dogs and cats will be altered before leaving the shelter. For rabbits, the adopter will be provided a voucher to be presented to a local participating vet who will spay/neuter the animal at no charge to the adopter. Dogs are vaccinated against canine distemper, adenovirus, parvovirus, parainfluenza and bordetella and also given a de-worming upon entering the shelter. All cats receive an initial distemper vaccination and de-worming. All further innoculations and medical care is the responsibility of the adopter.
All adopters must provide proof of income and proof of residence prior to adoption. Those that rent, must provide either a copy of the lease stating that pets are allowed or we must contact the landlord for verification prior to adoption. Vet references will also be requested and checked.
Adopters who live outside a 50 mile radius of the HSSC, can only adopt pets who are already spayed or neutered. If the animal is not already spayed/neutered, the adoption process will require two trips - one to apply to adopt and upon approval, the animal with be scheduled to be altered. After surgery, the adopter than then come pick up their new forever companion.
Property checks/home visits will be performed at the discretion of the HSSC. Property checks are mandatory for those wanting to adopt Pitbulls or Rottweilers. A fenced yard or outside kennel is also required when adopting either of these breeds.
