Who we are
Save Our Strays is a non profit animal rescue organization 501(c) (3) designed to help spay, neuter, vaccinate and find forever homes for the stray animals of St. Ansgar, Iowa
S.O.S. does not claim to be a no-kill shelter. We keep adoptable animals for as long as neccessary to find them good homes. Animals that are severely injured, sick or in pain, requiring health care beyond our monetary limits, or FeLV/FIV positive animals are humanely euthanized to end their suffering.
Adopting a Forever Friend

Legal Disclaimer: We reserve the right to refuse adoption.

Wish List
We use a lot of cat litter around here, and the stuff sure gets heavy lugging it around. Our cats aren't fussy and like the plain ole cheap brands you can find anywhere. We would be grateful to anyone that would like to donate some!
We also have some feline requests for kitty beds and or fleece blankets, and toys.:)
As always donations are how we operate, and we so much appreciate the generous hearts out there. Cash is always welcome. Without you we would not be able to help these wonderful souls that come to us.
Thank you.
We are so proud of this accomplishment! Here is the article that ran in the paper:
SOS Donates Animal Masks to Local Volunteer Fire Department
With donations received over the holidays, S.O.S. Save Our Strays have purchased a set of three oxygen / air masks specifically designed for animals, and have donated them to the St. Ansgar Fire Department. The masks come in three sizes; large canine, small canine and feline. Chief Rachut recalled a few instances in previous years where masks such as these would have been put to good use. Mindy Trettin, a vet tech at the Cedar Veterinary Clinic and VP of S.O.S. brought this idea to the group after reading an article in the magazine BARK. It was about a group in Florida called Help Animals, Inc. This small non-profit group teamed with McCulloch Medical of New Zealand, and designed the masks to help spread this initiative. To date, Firefighters in 150 cities (now 151!!) are equipped with pet masks, allowing "pet parents" to breathe a little easier.S.O.S.
