Our pet of the month introduces himself...
We have Bindy for pet of month. Bindy is a 2-3 yr old pit bull type of dog. Bindy is an awesome dog and is the model of what one wants in a pittie. He is great with the other dogs, cats too. He plays nice and is a calm friendly boy. He knows his name and comes when called. He also loves to play fetch and cannot be left alone with a kong or it will be gone! Bindy is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on his shots. He is for adoption to an indoor only home. Adoption for Bindy is $125.
The best way to inquire about dogs is via email or by phone during the regular business week. Off hours and weekends, the phone is not answered by our staff but by an answering service. They cannot help with dog inquiries. Email will be answered as soon as possible.
News
We are very excited to announce that we have begun working with the North Central Correctional Facility! They will be taking our dogs for basic training so they will make well behaved pets. We anticipate training will take 6 weeks. After that, the dogs will be available for adoption. All of the dogs that have completed the program have made wonderful progress and we are grateful to the prison for helping us and the dogs . Check them out on our pet list! They are all doing great.

Who We Are
The Calhoun County Canine Shelter is a small shelter for the lost and abandoned animals of the county. We are dedicated to finding good, long-term homes for the animals with responsible and loving families.
Adopting a Friend
To adopt a pet, simply fill out an application describing yourself and your household. If approved, pay a small fee to cover shots, spay/neuter and other expenses. You may then take your new family member home. Home visits may be required for some pets or family situations. Indoor homes will be given priority. Most animals are spayed/neutered and some are micropchipped.
Volunteering and Donations
The pound can always use donations of food and bedding, or if you have a dog house or kennel you would like to donate, please give us a call. Or if you have some time on the weekends and would be available to fill in on chores, please let us know! We would love to start a foster home program but will need families to volunteer to try this out.
Come Visit Us!
We are located on Hwy. 4 south of Rockwell City, IA 2.5 miles. Staff is not onsite so an appointment is necessary to meet the animals.
