Who We Are
The Fitzgerald-Ben Hill County Humane Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the welfare of animals. Our primary purposes are the prevention of cruelty to animals, the relief of suffering among pets and the promoting of humane education to the public. Each year the shelter will take in over 2,000 unwanted, abused and lost pets. You can help to ease the burden by spay/neutering your pets and putting an ID on your pet. Our shelter operates from local government contributions and donations. You may also donate cat litter, cleaning supplies, toys, towels and blankets. All donations are tax deductible. If you would like to help in other ways: support our fund raisers, join our membership program or become a volunteer.
Adopting a friend
All adoptions take about 30 min. so plan to stay a while if you are set on adopting a pet. One of our staff members will take you on a tour of the shelter to find the right pet for you and your family. After you have met the love of your life we sit down and do the boring paper work. You will be asked to fill out a adoption application. You will be given a brief history of your new family member and what vaccinations/worming he/she has received at the shelter. Pets needing surgery will receive a certificate and are by law required to be altered by the date assigned on the certificate. Two weeks after adoption you will get a follow up phone call to see how you are doing. Enjoy your best friend!
