About Gwinnett Humane Society

Gwinnett Humane Society was founded in 1979 to promote animal welfare. We strive to prevent cruelty to animals and reduce pet overpopulation by educating the public regarding humane treatment of animals, promoting responsible pet ownership, and encouraging spaying/neutering of companion animals. GHS is a volunteer supported, 501c3 non-profit organization supported entirely by private donations. We receive no government funds and rely solely on donations and volunteers who donate their time and energy to improve the lives of pets and animals in our local community through Education, Support, Resource referral, and Adoption services.

GHS does not operate a shelter. Animals in our adoption program are housed in private volunteer foster homes.
To contact Gwinnett's local county shelter, visit

Interested In Adopting?

Gwinnett Humane Society does not operate a shelter. We are a volunteer-based program focused on adopting animals in our Owner Sponsor program or being cared for in temporary volunteer foster homes. Our Placement volunteers are committed to placing our adoptable dogs and cats in new, loving homes by matching the personality and needs of each animal with prospective new families.

Not ready to adopt or already have? You can still help! Just return to www.gwinnetthumane.com and click on DONATE on the left menu (or the piggy bank in the yellow sidebar). Select SPONSOR A PET or one of our other donation options to help support Gwinnett Humane Society and help us help the animals.

What Do We Do?

If you are interested in learning more about one of our animals available for adoption, the FIRST STEP is to return to this page to complete a GHS ADOPTION APPLICATION. Applications may be filled out in person during our weekend adoption visitations or completed online.

All adoptions must be approved by a GHS Adoption Officer and are an attempt to place each animal in their best suited, loving home. We look to match the personality, behavior, and specific needs of each animal with the adoptive family.

* An application does not obligate you to adopt, but is required before we can discuss the animal with you. *
* We restrict adoptions to Georgia residents within driving distance of the greater Atlanta/Gwinnett area.*
* We reserve the right to refuse any adoption.*

Adoption Applications

Please complete the appropriate application and email it to applications@gwinnetthumane.com.
