WARNING HARTZ PRODUCTS Click the link above for information on the horrifying damage being done to pets by this company. We can stop pet food from coming in from China, even watch a Chinese company executive be executed for the role he played in the pet food recall but we can't control what is sold in our own nation, killing our beloved pets? Please do not use these over the counter products on your beloved pets. Pass this information on, as Hartz is not responding to the demand for change and it will be up to US to end this wholesale slaughter of our companion animals by this irresponsible company.
Need an informed reference on over 30 doggie day cares in the metro Atlanta area? Contact deb@thedognextdoor.com. Under the guise of boarding my pets I have investigated day cares on a number of factors including cleanliness, knowledge of the animals, skills of the workers, maturity of the care providers, ability to recognize and intervene before a fight errupts, ability to handle a medical emergency, the extent of their "advertised" 24 hour care, SECURITY, and a plethora of other criteria. If you board or place your dog in day care, the results may surprise you.. The Dog Next Door. News

We have have done some branching out into uncharted territory for us - finding dogs for people looking for the right pet. In the past few months, we have taken a number of calls regarding pets that we ultimately decided were not good matches for their potential adopters. At the adopters request, we searched for the right pet for them. After completing a brief survey to gather information about what they were looking for we put out pleas to other shelters, rescuers and local pounds, screening for the families. This venture has been a big success for adopters, dogs and rescues looking to place their animals. Try it ! If you don't have a good match, offer to help -- a life will be saved and a dog will thank you for it.

Special Thanks

A special Thanks to Nicole Ronczkowski. Thanks to her very hard work as a Girl Scout the dogs have new sheets and blankets to use for bedding, to make them more comfortable and help keep them clean. We need more sheets and blankets and towels, paper towels, detergent and bleach - gift cards to Walmart, Kroger or Publix would go a long way toward saving lives or visit The Dog Next Door to contribute to our "chip in" for our November heartworm and flea meds. We spend roughly $350/month on those preventive medications.

Our Commitment - Our Goal

The Dog Next Door is a home based canine assistance group. My goal is to save one dog at a time while awaiting the day when euthanizing dogs, animals of any kind, for lack of space, lack of veterinary care, for any reason other than an act of mercy to the animal, is a reality. The faces of shelter dogs waiting to die haunts all rescue workers on a daily basis and we all look forward to the day when we no longer have to look at those faces and choose - "which one will I save today?" "Which of you beautiful creatures can I successfully rehome?" the day when those dark, golden, blue and mixed eyes don't have horrifying secrets that we cannot reach or change or improve. I am committed to this work despite the financial drain, the setbacks, the sadness and frustration and indeed the painful loss that I (and all rescues) sometimes suffer and that is intrinsic to rescue work. My commitment is that all domestic animals find a loving home where he or she will never go to sleep with the gnawing pain of hunger in their little belly, where fresh clean water is a given and not a treat, where medical attention is provided swiftly when needed, where quality of life and not cost is the only consideration when making a life saving decision for a dog, where they will have soft blankies and beds to sleep on, where they will have toys to play with, where their every thought is not survival and they will want to play, where their little bodies are not shivering with cold just to stay alive another night, racked with exhaustion in the sweltering heat, where parasites never invade their bodies, intestines or hearts, where every hand that touches them does so in love and kindness and never in anger or frustration, my commitment is that every dog that is assisted by The Dog Next Door will never be torn from a home again, they will go to forever homes where they will grow to be fine, regal old dogs with lovely gray muzzles who will cross the Rainbow Bridge with the loving hands that cared for them stroking their face to help them cross in peace. This kind of love and care is the care these and all dogs deserve, It is not too much to ask for all they give us in life.

Who We Are

The Dog Next Door began as a private rescue funded solely by the income of one person and has evolved to a placement group - we will help you find the right dog at a local rescue or shelter or help you find the right home for a dog you have to give up. We do not do direct adoptions but merely assist with placement by posting and cross posting for individuals, shelters and rescues. I am devoted to the protection and well-being of all domestic animals but my rescue only shelters dogs, typically large mixed breeds that do not have help from breed specific agencies. The dogs were taken from high kill rural shelters, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, heartworm tested and put on heartworm and flea preventive, and microchipped. If they were injured, they were mended with the OUTSTANDING veterinary care of Orr Animal Hospital in Cumming GA, if they were heartworm positive, they were treated, if they had parasites, they were dewormed, if they were emaciated, they are fed special high calorie diets, whatever the problem might be, they are made well and whole again. The dogs are usually housetrained by the time they leave thedognextdoor and learn several basic obedience commands. The adoption fee never covers the cost of caring for these dogs - it does not even come close - that is why I work - to care for these wonderful dogs. When funds are available, we also provide assistance to those less fortunate - the elderly on fixed incomes, those on disability, who provide loving homes for their long time pets but have not been able to afford vaccinations, heartworm tests/preventive and some who have never even been spayed or neutered. Won't you please help us help them? Specify that your donation is for that purpose and we will ensure that your money helps someone less fortunate provide the beginnings of better health for their beloved pet. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Dog Next Door Marietta, GA 30066 Phone: 770.875.9659 - or you can leave a message at any time

There is an adoption application, home visit and contract in the adoption process that must be adhered to before a dog can be adopted. I will explain this in greater detail upon hearing from you. If you are a rescue and want to be one of my referrals, contactme. If you are an individual looking for a pet, I will help you look and I will ALWAYS be honest about a dog's disposition - the last thing I want is a dog going south and harming someone. - I want them to find love and compassion in their new home, I want you to find the perfect fit with your new companion..
