Our Adoptable Pet List

What's New...

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Please be a responsible pet owner and spay or neuter your pets. When you acquire a pet remember that it's a lifetime commitment usually between 10 and 18 years. And do not take in more pets then you can afford to properly take care of. Pet overpopulation is a serious issue, all animals deserve to be wanted and cared for. To all of you who are doing your part ...Thank you, you make our day brighter.

GoodSearch: Now every time you search the internet a penny can be donated to the shelter. Just go to www.goodsearch.com and type in Douglas-Coffee County Humane Society as your favorite charity.

FUNDRAISER: Look for blank greeting cards with photos featuring our shelter dogs and cats. The cards can be found at, Westberry Gardens, and Town Square Antique Mall. Each adorable photo is mounted on a high quality blank card, comes with a matching envelope and both card and envelope are encased in a clear plastic jacket. Please patronize the above shops and don't forget to pick up a card!

VISIT OR CALL THE SHELTER, THEY MAY HAVE WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR. What We Need

Some of these items you throw away daily; please Help by donating them instead.
CANS - That's right, the shelter is collecting cans. And, anything aluminum which includes small cat food cans and small juice cans. Please drop them off at the shelter and they will not only be recycled but will help raise funds for the shelter.

OLD BLANKETS and TOWELS. Don't throw them out, the blankets will comfort and keep animals warm and the towels we will use until there are only threads left.

BOXES, like the kind computer paper comes in. They need to have a lid so they can be used for new adopters to safely transport their new kitty home.

Bleach, Washable dog and cat toys, Cat Litter, and Paper Towels to name a few. Ideas, Help with Fund Raising, and Much More. Of course, Donations we are always in need of. And please remember us when you decide to down size, spring clean, or just get rid of a few things. We have two yard sales a year and collect items year round. But most of all, you can help us by spaying and neutering your own beloved pets, so that all the ones who don't have homes will have a better chance of finding a loving, caring home, like the one your pets enjoy with you. Thanks for your help and concern.

Adopting a friend

Once you spot your "new best friend", you will need to fill out an adoption application, our adoption policies apply to rescue groups also. For rescue groups on question #3 check other and list your rescue groups name, please include any information we may need to confirm you are a legitimate rescue organization. You can fill an application out in person or it can be emailed or faxed to you. All information is verified. The adoption fee is $100.00 for cats and dogs, these fees only cover the expense of having the pet you have chosen spayed or neutered, tested for feline leukemia or heart worms and their rabies vaccination. The Humane Society will adopt out of state, however, YOU MUST PROVIDE THE TRANSPORTATION.

* All animals are spayed or neutered before they leave the shelter, no exceptions.

STEPS TO ADOPTION .....Please Read

Fill out an adoption application.
It can take from a couple of days up to two weeks to receive approval. Please place "NA" where the question is not applicable. Due to the volume of animals that are received at the shelter all applications are now approved through our Adoption Committee, which are a group of volunteers, so please be patient. The Adoption Committee processes all applications, so a hold is not placed on an animal until it has been approved for adoption and the payment has been received. You will receive a phone call if approved or a letter if denied. Sometimes letters do get lost in the mail, so if you do not receive a reply and the pet you are interested is no longer on our site, then you may assume he/she has begun a happy new life in their forever home.
To pay your pets adoption fee, we only accept cash, cashiers checks or money orders. Please no personal checks!! If you can't pay in person please use 2nd day USPS & mail payment to: The Douglas-Coffee County Humane Society, P.O. Box 1958, Douglas, GA 31534. After you receive approval your payment must be received by the shelter in 4 business days. Once the shelter receives the payment your new pet will be tested for feline leukemia or heart worms. If the results are negative your pet will be scheduled a vet appointment to be spayed or neutered. You will be called with a pickup day and time. If you can't come that day, the shelter can hold it for a few days longer, just let the shelter know when you'll be able to pick him/ her up.
We reserve the right to refuse adoption to anyone, all adoptions are handled on a case by case basis.

Emailcoffeepets@yahoo.com is the shelter's email address. BEFORE EMAILING THE SHELTER; BE SURE YOU HAVE READ THE ABOVE TWO PARAGRAPHS CONCERNING ADOPTIONS. The shelter can fax adoption applications which can be filled out and returned via email or by faxing to 912-383-8308. Unfortunately the shelter staff can only check emails once a day and replies will be sent after close, with the exception of weekends and holidays. Occasionally our Internet is down; if you don't receive a reply within several business days, please contact the shelter.
