News

We urge those interested in adopting one of our dogs to submit an application as early as possible, as many of our dogs are matched with potential adopters already on file. We strive to place dogs quickly once they complete the minimum two-week evaluation/assessment period living as members of a family. We believe the best matches are made only after the foster home has gotten to know the pet!! Additionally, several diseases have fairly long incubation periods. This two week minimum allows for any incubated diseases to present themselves prior to placement in a new home, thereby protecting your pets from becoming infected. To the best of our knowledge, we are the only Irish Setter rescue organization that has this minimum requirement.

Who We Are

Save Our Setters, Inc. (S.O.S.), a non-profit organization, is a network of volunteers located across the country dedicated to rescuing and rehoming displaced Irish, Irish Red & White, and Gordon Setters. Our foster families take these dogs into their homes, evaluate them, and get them ready for adoption. We provide a written profile of the dog to share the benefit of our knowledge of the dog with the adopting family, including commands, good and bad characteristics, and other pertinent information!!

We are independent of the Irish Setter Club of America (ISCA), but we do work closely with many members and rescue volunteers of the Club for the benefit of Setters in need. Likewise, we are independent of the Gordon Setter Club of America (GSCA), and the English Setter Association of America (ESAA), and all other rescue organizations, but do prefer a cooperative working relationship with all reputable rescue organizations in the best interest of the dogs.

Note that applications submitted to one of the other breed rescues will not necessarily be shared with us. We do, however, share applications (with the potential adopter's permission, of course) with other reputable rescues in hopes of finding the perfect match for a dog in need!!!!

Adopting a friend

An adoption application is required to assist us in matching you with the right dog for your lifestyle. We ask for a vet reference, and a home visit may be required. All of our rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, current on vaccinations, heartworm tested and treated if necessary, and microchipped or tattooed for permanent identification. We require that all of our dogs be house dogs, as Setters do not do well being outside-only dogs. If the placement does not work out, we require that the dog be returned to our program.

Adoption fees are as follows:
Babies - $400 (under one year)
Young - $350 (one year to three years)
Adults 1 - $300 (four years to six years)
Adults 2 - $200 (seven years to nine years)
Seniors - $150 (over nine years)
Seniors for Senior Citizens (65 or older) - $75.00

We use foster homes for the Setters who enter our program. Our fosters are located in many areas across the country, therefore we do not maintain any centralized shelter facilities to visit.
