At ARL, we do not discriminate. We know for a fact that dogs can and do live very active lives much longer than most people suspect. This year, the winner at Westminster Kennel Club was a 10-year old dog and the world's oldest dog (who took the title after a 28 year old beagle died last spring) has spent a mere 21 years bringing joy to people. So, when we see a senior dog, we are willing to spend the time and money helping that dog. Unfortunately, many people simply think that an older dog is not worth adopting. For that reason, senior dogs take much longer to place in a loving home. However, at ARL, dogs of any age are welcome to live out life with the very best care and love we can provide. Please, if you are unwilling or unable to adopt a senior pet, click the "donate" button above and give to help these older, but not unloved, pets.

Who We Are
The Animal Rescue League of Northwest Georgia (ARL of NWGA) was founded by four Gordon County residents to provide an organized and cooperative structure for their canine rescue efforts in the Northwest Georgia region. The ARL of NWGA is a no-kill shelter that rescues abandoned, neglected, and abused dogs that might otherwise be euthanized by local animal control organizations. The rescue received its 501 (c) 3 status in the summer of 2007. Since that time, the rescue has found homes for nearly three hundred dogs, many of which were considered un-adoptable by the local shelter and were planned to be euthanized. The rescue currently houses approximately 60 dogs that are housed in outside kennels at two different locations and in foster homes. The dogs saved by the rescue are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, treated for any medical issues and then placed with who prefer to adopt unwanted dogs rather than purchase breeder dogs.
Adopting a friend
At Animal Rescue League, we try to make the adoption process as painless as possible for everyone involved. However, we are committed to ensuring that the best possible match is made for both our two-legged and our four-legged friends. To meet this goal, we require an adoption application to be filled out so that we can best understand your interests and needs in adopting a pet. Please email us at
arlofnwga@gmail.com for a copy of the adoption application.
