Weezy
Our precious Weezy went to the Rainbow Bridge on Saturday evening, July 18, 2009. We lost her to heart disease, but she passed comfortably in our arms. Weezy was a quiet, gentle little lady, who came to us as a senior, surrendered to a local shelter because of her senior age. She enjoyed many happy days in sanctuary with us and left an imprint on our hearts. She will be missed by humans and animals alike at Southern Comfort Animal Rescue.
WE'VE MOVED!
We’ve found a safe haven for the rescues! Now our main sanctuary is located in Wheeler County, between Vidalia and Dublin, where we have quiet country acres for our rescues to recuperate, relax and rehabilitate! Our Board is located across middle and coastal Georgia - so we have rescue contacts and adoptable pets from Savannah, to Dublin, to Macon! INQUIRES: EMAIL: socorescue@yahoo.com

LOOKING FOR WAYS TO HELP?
In parts of rural Georgia, animals are considered disposable. Nearly once a week, we literally find animals dropped into county dumpsters. Many pet owners simply can’t afford food for their pets. Therefore we hope to be able to refer qualifying families to pet food banks, discounted veterinary services, simple vaccinations and needed medications! We also strive to combat animal cruelty cases and neglect. Sometimes all it takes is EDUCATION!
GOT STUFF?
As we establish our new rescue and sanctuary, we need materials for kennels and shelters!Fencing (chain link, wood, posts, gates)
Cinder blocks
Cement (slabs or pourable concrete)
Housing (lumber, roofing, building materials)
Any supplies for Our Animal Intake and Quarantine Rooms (crates, bedding, bathing, grooming and healthcare supplies)
Food and Wellcare supplies
During our transition from Coastal to Middle Georgia, Southside Animal Hospital in Savannah not only boarded our rescues, but our personal pets. Our debt to Southside remains - both financially and in gratitude!
Gracious contributions from citizens and supporters offset our initial boarding expenses - however some veterinary care debt remains. If you wish to help, please call Southside Animal Hospital at 912-925-7925. You can directly help sponsor a pet through our veterinarians!

SCAR, Inc. remains true to our mission: Shelter the homeless, abused and neglected animals, provide care and rehabilitation, and guide them toward new homes and new lives.

How to Help
Southern Comfort Animal Rescue, Inc is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3), all volunteer, foster organization. If you are interested in helping our rescues, please ask us for a list of veterinarians who help us care for our rescues. You can send your support directly to these veterinarians, and know that you are directly helping these wonderful animals.Why we use Foster Homes
instead of a Shelter
SCAR does not operate as a typical kennel or shelter. Instead our rescues live in foster homes. Our Foster Friends care for these animals they were their own, providing proper vet care, exercise, training and interaction with people and other animals. This enables SCARS to know each animal’s personality, temperament, character and habits. With a clear understanding of YOUR lifestyle and preferences, we can work together to better insure that everyone is compatible – your family, current pets and your newly adopted pet!

SCAR is dedicated to animals who have no other options: orphans, strays down on their luck, neglect and abuse cases, those undergoing heartworm treatment or other physical ailments and injuries. Many simply need a place to stay while they heal, rehabilitate and wait for that perfect forever home!

Need help finding a new home for your pet or a stray you've taken in?
We understand that sometimes family pets must be ‘rehomed’ for a variety of reasons. For that reason, we may be able to post your pet as a 'Courtesy Listing’ – sort of a classified web-page for your pet. To qualify for a 'Courtesy Listing', your pet must be current on all veterinary care and will likely remain in your home until a new home can be found. Potential Adopters will be asked to contact you directly – but we’ll help provide screening tools to help you make a comfortable decision for your pet’s new future family!
We actively network with many local rescue groups and independent rescuers, so if there is a particular pet you hope to find, we may be able to help find that perfect pet through another animal welfare group!
