** GENERAL INFORMATION- PLEASE NOTE:

* We are not an all breed rescue and we do not have a shelter facility. *

* We are strictly volunteers with the Schipperke Club of America's rescue program and thus we cannot take in or foster any Schipperke mixed breeds. We are a private residence and can only foster a limited number of purebred Schipperke dogs. We cannot take in and/or foster all breeds of dogs or cats and we do not have all breeds of dogs or cats available for adoption.

Who We Are

We are a volunteer foster home and work to help place rescued Schipperkes with new forever homes. We do not place our foster Schipperkes by order of inquiry from potential adopters, as we strive to match our foster Schipperkes with the most compatible family, home and lifestyle possible.

*When a Rescue Schipperke comes to stay with us medical needs, if any, are taken care of such as a general check-up, spay or neuter, updating all immunizations, heartworm and fecal check .

* We give the Adopter all of the medical records and history that we have for the Schip they are adopting and encourage them to take their new family member to their own Vet for a "new patient - get aquainted" visit as soon as possible and to add their medical records to their files.

*We like to have our foster Schips stay with us for a minimum of one (1) month before we will place them with a new family. This gives us the opportunity to get to know them - their personality, habits, likes and dislikes. This helps us to do the best we can to provide their new forever home and family with as much information about them as possible to help decide if they are the right Schip to add to their family and lifestyle. Due to the Schipperke's adventurous nature, many of them will require a fenced yard for adoption.

* If for any reason and at any time after adoption problems or situations arise and you can no longer keep your adopted Schip we will always, without question, welcome him or her back .

Adopting a friend

*We ask for references - current and / or past Veterinarians are great !

*We try to arrange for a pre-adoption Home Check to be done with the new Adopter. A home check is a meeting between the adopter and a Schip rescue or other breed rescue volunteer. The volunteer will come to your home, meet you, your family and any existing pets in the home. They will ask to see your yard, the inside of your home, where you intend to keep the dog when you are not at home, and get to know about your existing pets if any. A home visit is done so that we know exactly where the dog is going, into what kind of environment, and to make sure that the environment is a safe, friendly and healthy one.

*Then, we invite the Adopter to come to our home to meet the foster Schip they are interested in adopting, to meet us and our Schipperke family members.

*We encourage all members of the adopting family, including present pets if possible, to come visit with us ! We like to have everyone's input about whether this will be the right Schip to adopt and join the family ! :)

*Finally, the Adopter will fill out an Schipperke Club of America Rescue Adoption Agreement and make the adoption fee payable to "Schipperke Club of America, Inc. Rescue." * We then mail the Adoption Agreement and the adoption fee to the SCA Rescue Chairman.

* The Schipperke Club of America Rescue uses the adoption fees to provide funds to pay for the medical needs of rescue Schipperkes while in foster care.

When we cannot foster

* We also are glad to try to help individuals needing to place their Schipperke, should we not be able to help them by fostering ourselves. We are happy to add their Schip to our page with their contact information so folks looking to adopt can contact the present owner directly.
* In these situations any and all placement arrangements, all pet ownership responsibilities and legal liabilities are solely between the present Schip owner/owners and the person/persons acquiring the dog from them. *
