Volunteers Needed!!!

Listed below is only a few ways that you may volunteer your time.

  • Dog Walker – Being stuck in a cage all day is no fun for a dog. Walking our canine friends is wonderful for their well-being and also a great way to get some exercise yourself. Burn some calories for a cause. Lose extra pounds and gain grateful friends.
  • Cat Cuddler – There is something very therapeutic about holding a purring cat in your arms and sharing in that affection. There are few things as cute as playing with a frisky feline. We have so many kitties in need of attention. They need to know that people care and that they are not forgotten. So bring your lap and lots of belly rubs and butt scratches – they’ll be put to good use!
  • Handyman – Someone to perform small repairs around the shelter. Handy women welcome too!
  • Transportation/responsible drivers – We need people who can transport animals to vet appointments and help transport animals to Petsmart adoptions days. Volunteers willing to drive animals to rescues are also greatly appreciated.
  • Go-Getters – We need people to help make flyers and pass them out. We need people willing to table events or even just spread the word.
  • Yard maintenance – Our yard is in need of some repair and maintanence. Someone or some company to cut the grass and weed eat for us would be great.
  • Gardening Enthusiasts – We’d love to have volunteers donate flowers and other lovely garden things and plant them for us. This is great for people who love gardening but don’t have space to do it at their own homes. Let’s make the shelter look more welcoming to visitors and more peaceful to the animals and staff.
  • Dog Washers – We need help washing the animals in our care so that they can look clean and pretty for potential adopters.
  • Greeter – Someone to stay in the office making sure every person who walks in the door is greeted. This person would also answer the phone and general questions.
  • Please stop in to fill out a volunteer application - you can start today!
Mature children from the ages of 6-16 are always welcome to volunteer, but must be in the company of a responsible adult.

Liberty Humane Shelter is a no-kill, non profit organization. WE are committed to every animal that we have at our facility. We make every effort to find the best suitable home for each animal. As a no-kill shelter, we keep the animal as long as necessary to find them a home. We do not euthanize them after 90 days like many other facilities. Recently, we have found homes for 2 dogs that have been with us for over a year. No animal should have to grow up at the shelter but unfortunately it happens more often than we would like. Please keep these animals in mind when looking for a new companion.
We try to save as many animals as we can manage, but so many of those perfectly sweet and healthy pets don't get that chance. src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v361/willowrhiannon/Bulldog_begs.gif">

    Adopting a Companion

Our adoption fee for most animals is $125.00 and includes shots, worming, heartworm check, feline leukemia test, and spay/neuter done by one of vets. Most of our animals have already been altered.
For pets under the age of six months, the adoption fee is $150.00, of which $25 is returned once the spay or neuter is completed.
**We accept only cash or money orders, no checks please.**
In accordance with Georgia State Law, all animals adopted out of shelters must be spayed or neutered within 30 days; with the exception of sexually immature puppies and kittens. These must be spayed or neutered within 30 days of reaching sexual maturity. We WILL prosecute anyone who does not comply.
We require proof from landlords/rental agencies that you are allowed to have a pet in your home.
Remember that adopting an animal is a life long commitment. They are not disposable. <

Monetary Donations --(which are Tax Deductable and very appreciated) may be sent to the following address:
    Liberty Humane Shelter
    PO Box 1481
    Hinesville, GA 31310

We are looking for local businesses or individuals to sponsor our pets, which is a great way to help the community. Please contact the shelter about fundraising opportunties. We look forward to any opportunity to get out there in the public! Remember it is a tax deduction.

RECYCLE FOR OUR ANIMALS: Keep your aluminum cans and drop them off at the shelter. We also recycle empty ink cartridges. It would be great to have all the businesses in the area donate the empty cartridges to us. We also recycle washing machines, dryers, refrigerators. You may take the appliance to COASTAL RECYCLE on Hwy. 84 and tell them that you are giving the shelter a donation and they will send us a check!
We are always in need of canned cat and kitten food and bags of kitten food. We have many cats and kittens in the shelter now and need food for them. Cleaning supplies such as Clorox Wipes, Mops, Air Freshner, clay cat litter, bleach, paper towels and toliet paper are always in demand. Treats for dogs and cats are enjoyed, and we can use some new cat and dog toys. Office supplies, such as copy paper, #32 ink cartridges, Doghouses(plastic), fencing materials, wood, tin, deep industrial sink, many other items needed.

Going shopping ? Well then, how about going to this website and a portion of what you buy goes directly to the shelter of your choice. Try it today !!!

Liberty Humane Shelter/ Liberty County Animal Control

Liberty Humane Shelter is NOT the same thing as Liberty County Animal Control.>

We share facilities and the common goal of saving animals.>
    * Liberty County Animal Control is high-kill and county-run. Their job is a terrible one, and we hate that they must do it. > If there were more responsible animal owners in Liberty County there would be less animals for them to pick up as strays, and less that would be breeding repeatedly time after time. WE as a community need to take control of this out of control animal population and start spaying and neutering our animals. We also need to be responsible for the pets that so depend on us to care for them. When they get lost, please search for them until they are found. Many people do not even know where their animal goes when they are picked up by animal control. Do they not know what could happen after 5 days? Please let your family, friends, and neighbors know if they have lost a pet, to look for them, to come out to the shelter and look for them, to bring a picture of them and to come back every day and look for them. Your pet is depending on you to save them. Please help us, help the animal find its owner!
    * Liberty Humane Shelter is no-kill. We are non-profit organization and run entirely off of donations. We currently have 7 employees but may add to that soon.We currently are housed at a county maintained site, but hope to build a new facility in the near future. Liberty County Animal Control and Liberty Humane Shelter share the responsibilities of maintenance on the building and share the cost of utilities such as electricity and propane gas. The two facilities also share the responsibilty of cost of feeding and maintaining the animals such as food and cat litter, etc. We receive no other financial aid from the county or any other governmental agencies. WE appreciate the opportunity that Liberty County has extended to us to allow us to save the lives of the animals in Liberty County. We depend on the community to support us through donations, grants from businesses, memberships, and fundraisers for us to pay the basics of our organization. The basics are food for the animals, cleaning supplies, medication/shots for the animals, propane costs, payroll costs, expenses on the shelter van, vet bills, gasoline for the van and lawnmower,

We try to save as many from animal control as we can. Unfortunately, we can not save them all, although we are trying every day to find a home for our animals which opens a kennel for us to pull from animal control. Please help us save more, encourage everyone you know if they are looking for a pet, to come see what we have. The perfect family pet may be here waiting for them to take it home!
Education about spaying and neutering is another factor of The Liberty Humane Shelter. We work with our local vets and SNAC to make sure that all animals that are adopted from the shelter have been altered. If your animals have not been altered, please contact your vet immediately or a spay/neuter clinic in your area. The Liberty Humane Shelter is a pick up area for a low cost spay neuter clinic from South Carolina, we are trying to do our part to decrease the pet population in our area. Spaying, neutering and responsible guardianship of these animals is vital to saving lives. We cannot do it all. We need your help. We need you to be committed to the animals who depend on you. For more info about spay/neutering please call your veterinarian clinic or SNAC 1-843-645-2500 LIBERTY HUMANE SHELTER WOULD LIKE TO PUBLICLY THANK ALL OF "OUR LOCAL VETS" THAT REPEATEDLY HELP US ON A DAILY BASIS. WE COULD NOT MAINTAIN OUR ANIMALS AT THE SHELTER WITHOUT THEIR INPUT, THEIR EXPERTISE AND THEIR WILLINGNESS TO HELP US. MANY THANKS TO LIBERTY VETERINARY CLINIC, BEATIE ANIMAL HOSPITAL, FLEMINGTON VETERINARY HOSPITAL, WOLFE ANIMAL HOSPITAL, CEDAR ANIMAL HOSPITAL, AND RICHMOND HILL ANIMAL HOSPITAL.

Every day, Animal Control brings in more animals and every Thursday those same officers euthanize the animals that they have come to care for. Every Thursday morning, Animal Control and the Animal Shelter are united by the heaviness in our hearts for the lives that are being lost. We try to save as many as we can so that there will be less that will die next time..>
We can't save them all, but with your help, we WILL save more. >

If your animal is missing, please do not depend on Petfinder pictures to tell you if animal control has it. Any animal brought into animal control is on limited time (3 to 10 days) and if you wait to check, your loving companion may already be dead. Animal Control is the first place you should check and you should keep checking. Don't depend on a phone call or a microchip. Go look with your own eyes - it is the only way to be certain.Animal controls number is 912-876-9191>

If you have found a stray, you may drop them off at animal control. If you have lost your pet, please call animal control and go by animal control and leave a picture and a number and call everyday to check, better yet come by everyday to check. Your pet is depending on you!> If you have an animal cruelty case, please let animal control know of it immediately, Liberty County enforces the animal ordinances and laws.

You can call Animal Control at 912-876-9191
